Based in some of the North West’s most beautiful and historic locations, The University of Cumbria is a vibrant and inspiring place. Combining experience, quality-teaching and dedicated student support, the University has helped over 45,000 students to make their impact on the world.

Courses and Qualifications

The University is made up of five academic institutes:

  • Business, Industry and Leadership
  • Arts
  • Education
  • Health
  • Science and Environment

Within each department, there are four different varieties of postgraduate degrees available at the university:

  • Masters (MA, MSc or MBA)
  • Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip)
  • Postgraduate Certificate (PgC)
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)

Job Prospects

Studying a degree is an important step towards achieving your career goals. With this in mind, preparing for the world of work is a big part of studying at the University of Cumbria.

Through course design and a committed Careers and Employability Service, the University will help you impress future employers. Nine out of ten University of Cumbria graduates are working or completing further study within six months of finishing their degree.

Student Union

You’ll make lasting friendships and pursue new interests; the Student’s Union helps make this happen. The SU manages and promotes clubs and societies, organises exciting events, competitions and represents the student voice.

Accommodation

The University provides two forms of accommodation: halls of residence and university-managed houses.

Halls of residence are conveniently located, well equipped and maintained. There are over 1,000 rooms available with a range of en-suite and shared facilities and costs on average £10 per night.

Facilities

To accommodate the University’s many subjects the University boasts a large range of facilities; some are subject specific and others are more general. The facilities are modern, and provide everything you need to explore your subject.

City Life

With a friendly atmosphere and beautiful scenery, the location of each campus offers an exciting mix of things to do.

Home to two campuses, Brampton Road and Fusehill Street, Carlisle is a lively place that blends a dynamic range of amenities with a long and cultural heritage. With many bars, restaurants, shops and clubs, the City is a fun place to call home.

Lancaster is a vibrant location that has so much to see and do. With many places to eat, drink, meet friends and relax, the City provides an endless amount of activities.

Combining charming teashops, places to eat, an independent cinema and a number of bars, Ambleside and the surrounding areas is a great place to live and study.

The University also has campuses in London, Barrow-in-Furness and Workington.

Both Lancaster and Carlisle are connected by high-speed train lines, so you can travel directly to Manchester, Edinburgh and London.
