Masters degrees in Biomedical Imaging offer advanced training in the techniques used to create devices, systems and algorithms to visualise biological and medical structures and their functions.
Courses range from taught MSc degrees, to research oriented MRes and MPhil programmes. Entry requirements normally include an undergraduate degree in a relevant science or medical discipline.
A Masters in this field will allow you to specialise in a variety of ionising and non-ionising imaging methods including electrical, microwave, magnetic, acoustic, ultrasound and optical techniques.
These techniques offer insights into the into cellular, and molecular and functionality of biological processes, as well as biomaterials and biomechanical procedures such as synthetic tissue engineering. You will be trained in pre-clinical methodologies, including the use of surgical imaging instrumentation and other medical equipment.
Through this, you will become competent trained in monitoring implants such as organs, as well as synthetic tissues and prosthetic limbs. This includes analysis of the development of biosensors for detecting, monitoring and preventing illnesses such as cancer, heart disease and neurodegeneration.
Careers include roles in medicine such as a clinician, pharmacist, radiologist or positions in nursing and midwifery.
