Masters degrees in Industrial Chemistry offer advanced training in the physical and chemical processes which transform raw materials, developing products which benefit humanity.
Courses range from taught MSc degrees, to research oriented MRes and MPhil programmes. Entry requirements normally include an appropriate undergraduate degree such as Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Biochemistry.
Industrial Chemistry is highly diverse and encompasses a variety of industrial practices. From environmental management and water supply, to renewable energy, pharmaceuticals and even the production of diamonds and other precious materials such as gold.
You will be trained in the discovery and selection of raw materials, their chemical compounds and industrial functions. Most courses allow you to extrapolate small scale laboratory chemistry into larger projects – either through individual research projects or industrial placements.
Careers in the field are extremely varied. They range from frontline engineers in the production and manufacture of raw materials, to laboratory research in various institutes, and consultancy for small businesses or government agencies.
If you would prefer a route in academia, a Masters in this field is excellent preparation for further research at PhD level.
