Why study a Masters in German History?

## For much of its history, the German region was a significant – but often politically unstable - region within mainland Europe. Since its early days as a state occupied by the Roman Empire, the development of Germany has centred on issues of military power and cultural and industrial innovations – as well as political flux. Significant topics within the History of Germany include: The Thirty Years War (1618-1648); the Industrial Revolution and the French Revolution in the 18th century; the Two World Wars; and the Cold War. Topics within these events include theories surrounding economics, class and identity, race, religion, sovereignty, gender and ethics. Though Germany’s 20th Century history is a subject of cultural and political sensitivity, the country has a much broader association with developments in human rights and liberal thinking, stretching back to the Enlightenment, Reformation and beyond. Careers in this field may include traditional roles in academia or scholarly research on behalf of heritage institutions such as museums and archives. Other roles may include foreign policy, journalism, or translation services.
