What’s it like to study a Masters in Edinburgh?
18th-century Edinburgh was known as the ‘Athens of the North’ as pioneering thinkers made ground-breaking developments in economic, scientific and philosophical theory. Universities in Edinburgh
Edinburgh has always been renowned as a seat of learning. Its oldest university, the University of Edinburgh, was founded in 1583, making it one of Scotland’s prestigious ‘Ancient Universities’. It is now one of the top 20 universities in the world and part of the UK’s elite Russell Group.
There are three other universities in Edinburgh and around 60,500 resident students. In addition to the University of Edinburgh itself, the city is home to Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh Napier University and Queen Margaret University.

Edinburgh’s economy is usually referred to as the strongest in the UK outside of London. Key business sectors include financial services, life sciences, creative industries and tourism.
