What’s it like to study a Masters in Sheffield?

Sheffield originally expanded with the development of coal mining and metalworking during the Industrial Revolution. Its origins in a network of smaller villages are still evident and the city actually contains more trees than any other in Europe.

With lots of pubs and restaurants, a proud local brewing culture and a range of live music venues, you’ll find plenty to relax with while studying as a postgraduate in Sheffield. Sheffield has long been a hotbed for musical talent, with the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Pulp and the Human League all making their name in South Yorkshire.

The city also has a distinguished sporting tradition and is an ideal home away from home for football fans, featuring two large rival football clubs, Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United, as well as the oldest club in the world: Sheffield FC. More recently, Sheffield has become famous as the birthplace of 2012 Olympic gold medallist, Jessica Ennis-Hill.

Sheffield is also home to Sheffield Hallam University, which dates back to 1843, but received its university charter in 1992. Hallam is one of the largest universities in the UK and offers postgraduate courses in a wide range of subjects, emphasising transferrable skills and graduate employability.
