Masters degrees in Event Management equip postgraduates with the skills and expertise to arrange, manage and oversee a variety of public or private occasions. These may include sports events, shows, festivals and wedding planning.
Courses range from taught MA and MSc programmes, to research-oriented MRes degrees. Entry requirements normally include an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject, or sufficient work experience.
These courses will develop excellent project management skills in planning, running and maintaining events. Training is likely to be provided in each component, from financial planning to marketing and gaining sponsorship. Other typical exercises include learning to draw up contracts and procure staff.
Training in facilities and operations management is also key. This could include assessing health and safety, food security and crowd safety. Academic classes are likely to analyse a variety of events from local to international scales, measuring sustainability and environmental impact.
Many courses also include placements with events companies. These will allow you to gain professional experience, teaching you to liaise with clients and customers effectively.
Careers may include setting up your own events business, or working for larger corporations hosting international events around the world. You could also work on behalf of universities and museums to organise conferences and exhibitions.
