This one-year Master of Science program entirely taught in English aims to prepare future managers of fashion companies, who will be able to deal with competitive global environments, and to promote the exchange of experiences and best practices in the international fashion arena.

The program offers students the opportunity to interact with a dedicated professional faculty, specialized in fashion management; to visit companies including factories, showrooms, and flagship stores; and to learn about new trends and successful business models in fashion and across segments, from luxury companies to fast fashion retailers.

The Fifth edition of the MSc in Fashion Management will start in September 2018 at the IÉSEG campus in Paris, France.

The Master of Science in Fashion Management is the perfect program to specialize in the Fashion Business.

Our Fashion Management students benefit from a dedicated faculty with extensive experience and knowledge of the industry. There is collaboration with many companies and professionals operating in the fashion industry, from luxury to fast fashion retailers. Companies are involved in the program in different ways, including sending guest speakers, offering consulting projects, providing internships/jobs and flagship stores visits.

Courses will be a mix of interactive lectures and traditional classes; guest speakers from the academic and fashion business community; corporate visits and seminars; and problem-based learning cases.

Master of Science in Fashion Management Curriculum

The Master of Science in Fashion Management consists of 90 ECTS credits and is offered on a full-time basis. The program consists of 2 consecutive semesters of courses (September – May) followed by a professional experience (from June onwards). The curriculum is developed around introductory courses to build a common managerial background; core management courses with a focus on the industry; and specialized courses in fashion. It also includes French or other foreign language courses.

Admission & Fees

This admission is open to students holding an undergraduate degree in any field from a recognized university with good academic performance and a good command of English.

Rolling admission is offered from October 2017.

The Master in Fashion Management aims at shaping and developing the competences of managers capable to understand and play the rules of Fashion. The Programme follows a cross-field and multicultural approach, matching management and fashion styling, linking knowledge of the product to sensitivity to fashion.

The Master represents a gateway to enter the Fashion world.

The Master in Fashion Management will provide participants with a strong, robust basis of fundamental managerial tools and with the necessary conceptual framework to understand and follow modern fashion languages and trends. Participants will also have the possibility to gain direct experience developing projects on specific topics chosen among the hottest issues in Fashion, and they will have the chance to work together with the most outstanding professionals and the most prestigious fashion brands. The MA Fashion Design programme gives you the freedom to pursue your creative ambitions through experimental practice, personal research and critical evaluation. We produce creative, technically accomplished graduates with a professional approach, who are sought after by top employers. You will be able to choose from a range of fashion roles, including fashion designer, costume designer, pattern cutter, illustrator, fashion/photographic stylist, trend forecaster, fashion buyer, visual merchandiser, social media, blogger or fashion editor. This degree is also excellent preparation if you are interested in taking your studies to PhD level.

This highly anticipated route of study is one year full-time in duration.The design reflects the educational requirements and learning opportunities necessary to succeed as a fashion buyer in today`s competitive environment.The Postgraduate Diploma programme will bring together both industry experts and educators in the respective module areas.

Course Content

The first semester introduces participants to the principles of Fashion Buying I. Materials and Fabrics, Sociology of Fashion, Finance for non-financial Managers, and Marketing Luxury Brands and Retail Merchandising Analytics.

In the second semester students study a more specialist area with Fashion Buying II, complemented by modules such as Store Environment, Fashion Public Relations and Communications, Retail Operations Management and International Fashion Retailing.

Throughout the year, a series of Fashion Seminars will be delivered. These seminars will allow for the students to interact with key industry figures and be kept informed of the latest industry developments. International travel will also be an important feature of the programme.

The first trip to Paris takes place in February. The aim of this trip is primarily to attend the Premiere Vision fabric trade fair and experience firsthand the demands of the apparel industry. The learning outcomes of this trip our examined by continuous assessment.

Later in the semester, students travel to an Irish and UK based fabric mill with The National Tailoring Academy who deliver the Materials and Fabric module throughout semester 1.

The portfolio’s ethos of collaborative dialogues through material practices provides an innovative model of design, fine and applied arts education. This development allows students from all pathways to experience and share creative practices and innovative mind-sets through inter-disciplinary and trans-disciplinary dialogues. This ethos is enhanced within each programme to stimulate ‘collaborative’ practices and experimentation across a broader spectrum of specialist fields, developing graduates with the contextual awareness, creative thinking and technical skills to operate at the forefront of their discipline.

During the course of your studies you will be supported by specialist staff, leading professionals and practicing artists through lectures, seminars, workshops and tutorials. We have exceptional traditional and digital facilities, housed in spacious purpose-build workshops. Through these, we encourage creative freedom within all of our students and support you in challenging conventional thinking and established practices and facilitate new technological advances across a broad range of disciplines. We have found that through collaborative experimentation and innovative design thinking our students are able to produce work that meets the challenges and respond to the demands of the 21st century.

Key Features

MA Surface Pattern Design will provide a design-focused and student-led experience with its main aims to enhance creativity, innovation, design, making skills, advance contextual understanding and employability.

The multi-disciplinary programme will appeal to recent graduates of our own undergraduate programme and graduates of similar courses; to those wishing to change careers within the creative industries or to those wishing to revisit academia and the subject area.

Students will have a designated studio space and access to the existing Surface Pattern workshops and specialist facilities.

Students will benefit from a strong practice based grounding in the key areas of traditional and digital surface pattern design before exploring the wider possibilities that the MA portfolio will offer to advance their practice.

Assessment

The main modes of assessment used on this programme are; studio projects, written assignments and seminar presentations.

Assessment at postgraduate level is reflected by your ability to reformulate and use relevant methodologies and approaches to address problematic situations that involve many interacting factors. It includes taking responsibility for planning and developing courses of action that initiate or underpin substantial change or development, as well as exercising broad autonomy and judgement. It should also reflect an understanding of the relevant theoretical and methodological perspectives and how they affect your area of study or work.

Career Opportunities

We strive to ensure a sustainable future in Surface Pattern for our graduates through a rigorous programme underpinned by skills in employability, creative enterprise and professional studies.

There are opportunities to undertake work placements and address live briefs. Most recently our students have completed briefs with M&S, Tigerprint, Hallmark and Freshwest design companies.

Students are encouraged to establish links with industry and engage in collaborative projects. There is also the option to study abroad with the Erasmus programmes currently running with Universities in Barcelona, Norway and Sweden.

The programme has an excellent track record in design competitions, awards and industry events such as Indigo (Paris) and New Designers.

Graduates from the Surface Pattern programmes have been extremely successful and continue to be recruited in a highly competitive market. Employment roles for graduates from the programme are varied and wide reaching and include:

Freelance working for textiles for fashion studio, fashion brands, designers, retail, interiors studios, on bespoke commissions for clients, producing own name products, large-scale design retail operation. Also formal employment as textiles designer, designer within design brand or retail operation, Stylist, Trend forecasting, Buyer for design related operations, Visual Merchandising. Also employment within arts organisation, museum, gallery, Curator, Self-employed designer maker supplying galleries, retail outlets, selling through high-end craft events, or own website.

This MA is made up of three modules focusing on Advertising and Editorial, Documentary and Reportage, and Fashion and Lifestyle. The students must present a final project along with a written dossier.

The main objectives of this Master program are:

• To offer students a view of current tendencies in applied and commercial photography.

• To implement the tools and knowledge used in the photography industry.

• To familiarise students with contemporary working methods in the field of production, studio management, post-production, publishing and stock.

• To show the cultural value of photography, forms of collaboration and creative funding models,

• To analyse the challenges and limitations of the market in times of strong media convergence and downsizing,

• To get to know about the history of photography in the context of design.

Professional Opportunities: This Master programme offers students the chance to access the field of professional photography, which has a high demand in many fields: Many artbuyers and photoeditors worked as photographers themselves or graduated in photography. Therefore they know the challenges and needs of photographic artists and can also communicate with them at eye level.
