The scholarship celebrates the life and legacy of Eve Smith, whose enthusiasm for literature and supporting new writers left a lasting impact on the creative writing community of UEA. Through her involvement with The UEA Booker Prize Foundation Scholarship, she followed students’ journeys with genuine interest, cheering their successes and encouraging them as they developed their craft. The Eve Smith Scholarship, generously funded by the Booker Prize Foundation, is open to any student, from anywhere in the world, who has been offered a place on the University of East Anglia’s prestigious postgraduate course in Prose Fiction.
The scholarship covers full tuition plus a significant contribution to living expenses. UEA is supporting the scholarship by capping the tuition fee at £12,950, regardless of whether the student is UK/international. This allows the remaining sum to be used for living expenses. As well as benefitting from the lower rate of fees, international students will also receive additional financial support to cover their visa and International Health Surcharge fee.
The successful applicant must demonstrate outstanding creative writing potential, passion for subject and financial need.
To be considered for this scholarship please complete an application form. Applications are now open and the deadline is Tuesday 6th April, 2027.
