What’s it like to study a Masters in Swansea?
Postgraduate students in Swansea will enjoy living in a historic city with easy access to other parts of the pleasant South Wales region. Though much of its growth occurred in the 19th century, Swansea retains many features of its earlier history, including the remains of Swansea Castle, which form an attractive centrepiece near the city centre.
The poet Dylan Thomas is one of Swansea’s most famous sons, and the city’s Dylan Thomas Centre is an important institution dedicated to his work (and associated with the University of Wales).
The nearby coastline is particularly popular with tourists and includes some of Britain’s most picturesque beaches as well as walking routes around the hills and cliffs of the Gower Peninsula. Regular train connections run to Cardiff and onward to London, making it easy and convenient to visit other parts of southern England and Wales.
Universities in Swansea
Swansea’s largest university, Swansea University, was first established as a university college in 1920, before becoming part of the University of Wales in 1996 and an entirely independent institution in 2007. It is usually ranked in or around the UK top 50 and is particularly renowned for its work in engineering and physical science subject areas.
The city’s other university, Swansea Metropolitan University, traces its origins to a group of 19th-century colleges, but is now a campus of the University of Wales Trinity St David.
