Loughborough is a Leicestershire town in England’s East Midlands. Famous as the location of the Great Central Railway and one of the country’s oldest bell foundries, Loughborough is also home to Loughborough University.

Loughborough’s history is closely linked to Britain’s industrialisation, with several factories and manufacturers appearing in the town over the course of the 19th century. One of the most prominent was John Taylor & Co, a bellfounder. Still in operation today, the current site of Taylor’s Bell Foundry was established in Loughborough in 1839.
Another important element of Loughborough’s industrial past lies in the Great Central Railway, a heritage railway line that showcases the steam engines of yore. A meticulously preserved section of the historic GCR network, the Great Central Railway runs from Loughborough to several other parishes in the region.
Masters students in Loughborough will find it a busy but friendly university town with excellent transport links to London, which is under 90 minutes away by train. Nearby Nottingham and Leicester are great city breaks, while Loughborough is surrounded by a number of picturesque rural villages.
