Masters degrees in Musical Performance offer advanced training in the artistic techniques for the composition and production of music pieces, usually for live performance. Taught MA and MMus (Master of Music) degrees are typical for the field, though research-based MRes and MPhil programmes may also be available at some institutions. Entry requirements normally include an appropriate undergraduate degree such as Music or Performance Studies.

Why study a Masters in Musical Performance?

## Courses in this field allow you to increase your technical performance ability, whilst also broadening your knowledge of performance methodologies. Depending on your interests, your course may be more practise-based or taught in nature. Typically, you will examine the sociocultural contexts surrounding Musical Performance, including the origins and developments of different genres through significant historical periods. Performances may include musical theatre and stage production, as well as ensemble pieces such as orchestra. Alongside traditional techniques in sheet music and lyric writing, you will also explore contemporary techniques in digital composition and performance, including sonic art. Traditional careers include roles such as producing, writing or composing of musical theatre, live art or traditional stage performance.
