Catalyst is a progressive and inclusive learning community in Berlin offering Bachelor’s, Master’s and short courses across music production, sound engineering, film and video production, visual effects, game design, screenwriting, acting for screen and stage, and applied creative psychology.

Our programmes are built around hands-on, practice-based learning designed to cultivate artistic identity, technical skill and professional confidence. Based in the historic Funkhaus, we support emerging creatives in developing their craft within a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment.

About the Catalyst - Institute for Creative Arts and Technology

Catalyst is a creative institute focused on experiential education and personal transformation. We believe creative practice is a powerful tool for growth and change. Our learning model emphasises hands-on practive-based work, critical reflection, collaboration and self-direction. Based in Berlin’s historic Funkhaus, we offer access to state-of-the-art studios and an interdisciplinary learning environment spanning music and sound, film and visual media, acting and creative human development. Our mission is to support the development of independent artists and thinkers who are equipped to navigate and shape the future of creative industries. All courses are taught in English, with a focus on building real-world skills, confidence and artistic voice.

Life at Catalyst is creative, collaborative and community-led. Our riverside campus at the historic Funkhaus is home to professional studios, workshops, theatres, cinemas and performance spaces designed for exploration, experimentation and peer exchange. Students work side by side across disciplines: whether producing an album, filming a short, designing a game or preparing a stage performance, their work happens in an environment that mirrors the realities of the creative industries.

Beyond the classroom, students take part in a wide range of events and extracurricular opportunities, from guest sessions and interdisciplinary jams to student-led showcases and our annual MA Symposium. The Symposium brings together artists, researchers and practitioners from around the world for a multi-day gathering of creative exchange, critical dialogue and shared learning.

Yes. All BA (Hons) and MA degrees are validated and awarded by Plymouth Marjon University, ensuring international recognition.

Yes. We provide visa support as part of the enrolment process, including documentation and guidance for applying for a German student visa.

Yes, we offer scholarships of up to €2,000 for MA students, along with flexible payment plans. Our programmes are also eligible for BAföG and other international funding bodies. Visit our website for more funding info.

We offer full-time Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes as well as intensive four-week short courses. Areas of study include music and sound, film and visual media, acting and applied creative psychology. Courses are taught in English. Explore all courses.

Generally, applicants need a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) for Master’s. English language proficiency is also required. Click here for more details.
