Our vision is for a world-leading integrated School of the Built Environment that works with students and partners to address the great global challenges facing the built environment and is recognised internationally as a collaborative and supportive workplace where exciting progress takes place. "We are one of the largest centres for built environment education in the UK. We bring together outstanding facilities, superb teaching and excellent industry links to ensure that you are ready for your future career." When you graduate, you are likely to be part of a team working on the planning, design, building and maintenance of infrastructure systems such as bridges, roads, railways and a variety of buildings such as skyscrapers, airports, hospitals or sports stadia worldwide. This requires an understating and appreciation of the various people and processes that contribute to the construction cycle, that you can only acquire by studying in an integrated School such as ours. This interdisciplinary ethos also underpins research within the School, with colleagues undertaking research at the interface of subject boundaries or drawing upon each other’s expertise to provide new insights. This benefits our students when it comes to choosing their research projects. In addition to students being able to formulate their own project with academics from different fields, we are also able to advertise projects that innately span the knowledge base and technical skill sets of different professions in the built environment. Equality, diversity and inclusion Our School is dedicated to supporting an equitable, diverse, and inclusive environment – to create a better world, together. The diverse backgrounds, characteristics and opinions within our community are our great strength and are key to our pursuit of research, enterprise, and educational excellence. The wellbeing of our students and staff is our priority. We recognise the value of a fulfilling and balanced work and personal life and seek to support colleagues in achieving this balance. We are committed to ensuring all within our community are fairly heard and represented. We pledge to address inequality and inequity, increase diversity – specifically supporting opportunities for under-represented groups – and ensure inclusivity. Our School is a place where diverse perspectives, cultures and values are accepted, appreciated, and celebrated.
