Universities in Rome

Rome’s oldest surviving university is the Sapienza University of Rome, which dates back to 1303. La Sapienza is consistently ranked within the 50 best higher education providers in Europe and is actually the second largest (based on student numbers) in the world.

Other historical universities in Rome include the Pontifical Gregorian University, established in 1551 by Saint Ignatius of Loyola (the founder of the Jesuit order) and acclaimed for scholarship in Theology and the Humanities.
