Assessment of practice learning occurs both within the 'practice modules' - Professional Practice Experience (PPE) modules - and also in the 'practice-related' modules. All students have a Practice Assessment Document which contains a competency framework to assess practice.

As a postgraduate student with more highly developed academic skills and a self-directed approach, you are expected to work to produce material that is creative and original. This course is for is for students that want to make a difference to the health and wellbeing of people with learning disabilities. It has a strong practical focus and will give you the knowledge and skills you need to become a registered learning disability nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

The course is taught in partnership with St George's, University of London, so you'll get combined expertise, facilities and interpersonal learning. Overview

The MA in Dramatherapy is a two-year full-time course offered within the School of English, Media and Theatre Studies at NUI Maynooth, Co Kildare, Ireland. The programme offers a training to become a fully qualified Dramatherapist. At the core of Dramatherapy lies the experience of personal transformation through group and/or individual work. The Dramatherapy process uses drama activities with the intention of facilitating change. On this course students will study, explore, experience and develop the necessary theoretical and clinical framework for planning, facilitating and evaluating this therapeutic process. Students who complete all aspects of the MA training programme will be qualified to work as Dramatherapists with a variety of client groups within for example clinical, social and educational settings. Students are required to undergo personal therapy (group and individual) outside of the teaching hours throughout the training.

All applicants are required to have some experience in each of the following areas:
- 6 months minimum experience of working with people in clinical, social or educational settings
- Drama and theatre training or extensive experience of drama
- Training in or an interest in and experience of personal development through personal therapy or counselling.

Applicants must have a recognised primary degree which is considered equivalent to Irish university primary degree level.

Course Structure

The Dramatherapy MA programme is delivered every Friday and one Saturday a month starting early September, continuing throughout the academic year and extending into a Summer School in June. The modules include a variety of subjects such as working with stories therapeutically, working with groups, developing theatre skills, introduction to Playback and Forum Theatre, working with ritual in therapy, introduction to psychological and psychoanalytical concepts, an introduction to research methodologies for the Arts Therapies and an Arts Therapies summer school.

About the course:

This full time course is made up of three phases - PG Cert, PG Dip and MA. You will need to come in to the University one day each week, and spend up to two days each week in your clinical placement.

You will learn how to develop, appraise and apply different theatrical models and Dramatherapy approaches in your studio work, and explore how you can apply these therapeutically to different client groups.

In your clinical placements you will have the opportunity to apply your theoretical knowledge and practical skills in a clinical setting. You will be supervised by a Dramatherapist from the University, who will help you to consider and reflect upon the work you do in your placement.

Throughout this course you will be encouraged to reflect and consider the impact and consequences of your interventions.

You will be required to undertake a total of 72 sessions of personal therapy, as stipulated by the British Association of Dramatherapists (BADth), for the duration of the training. The cost of therapy will be covered by yourself, this is in addition to the standard course fees.

When you have successfully completed all elements of this course and the personal therapy sessions, you are eligible to apply to the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) for registration as a Dramatherapist. HCPC are the regulatory body.

Clinical Education

Clinical education is an integral and invaluable component of the programme. It is strongly embedded within the course structure. Preceding campus-based studies provide the skills and knowledge which students require in order to be prepared for their placements.

Continuing modernisation of the NHS has seen a move away from a focus on non-acute health interventions being delivered in hospitals to the delivery of care in the community. Experience gained on all clinical education modules throughout your undergraduate training aims to reflect these developments by providing you with a broad range of experience across a variety of settings including acute NHS hospitals, private healthcare providers, community hospitals, health centres, GP surgeries, schools, nursing homes and sports centres etc.

Regardless of location or specialty students are expected to adopt a holistic approach towards their patient/client, taking into account individual psychological, social, cultural and economic factors, whilst embracing the principles of health promotion and health education.

All clinical placement modules are organised on the student's behalf by the clinical co-ordination team. This allows us to provide you with a balanced clinical experience both in terms of the specialties/patient groups you have worked with and the range of health care setting you have worked in. It is important that you are exposed to a variety of health settings, which are reflective of current clinical practice.

In total students will complete in excess of 1,000 hours of clinical experience in order to complete the programme. Clinical education occurs in six-week blocks which gives you time to "find your feet" and have a highly valuable learning experience at the same time as providing you with plenty of opportunity to demonstrate your learning and develop as a clinician.

It is anticipated that whilst on clinical placement you will be working a 34-hour week minimum, (compared to full-time workers this effectively means you have one half-day off per week). However, the number of hours you work and the time at which you start and finish work is subject to negotiation with both college and the supervising clinical educator.

Whilst on placements you will be supervised by physiotherapists registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Students will be assessed on placement by their supervising clinician(s), using a standardized assessment tool – the Clinical Assessment Record (CAR form). The assessment score from clinical placement modules will contribute to your final degree classification

Most clinical placements are located within the Greater London area, ie within the M25, but a few could be further away necessitating "staying over on placement" during the week. You should anticipate the need to "stay over" on at least one or two occasions.

We are sympathetic to your needs when we assign clinical placements. However, we are unable to guarantee that any student will be located close to their home or term-time address and you may have to commute or live away from home for the duration of a placement or two. We do try to give special consideration to students whose personal circumstances fall within specified criteria, ie they have young children, are a main carer, or have a declared disability etc.

If the NHS is paying your university fees, your travel costs (in excess of the expense you normally incur between home and college) and if necessary the costs of alternative accommodation can be reclaimed from the NHS. However you should note that they is always a delay between paying out money and being reimbursed which can create temporary cash-flow issues.

Academic teaching is delivered in-house by experienced physiotherapy lecturers with specific specialist clinical knowledge and skills. Six specialist study blocks have been incorporated into our programme to develop awareness of specialist and emerging areas of physiotherapy. These small study blocks support our students to develop a wider perspective on healthcare provision and the physiotherapy profession.

PebblePad software is used to deliver and monitor Continuing Personal and Professional Development (CPPD) activities, preparing students for the transition to qualified physiotherapist.

The Performing Arts Medicine MSc at UCL is a unique programme providing specialised training to those interested or already involved in offering health services to this very special sector of instrumental musicians, singers, dancers, actors and other performing artists.

About this degree

The MSc and diploma cover musculoskeletal injury, performance psychology, pain management, assessment and rehabilitation, disability, travelling and touring, dance and music performance science, management of the professional voice and research methodology. MSc students also engage in a research project and dissertation. The certificate is a limited curriculum version for non-clinicians or clinicians who wish to upgrade at a later time.

Students undertake modules to the value of 180 credits.

Dissertation/research project

All MSc students undertake a research project which culminates in a dissertation of approximately 6,000–7,000 words, a presentation and a viva.

Teaching and learning

Our course will prepare you for the National Physician Associate entrance exam. Successful completion of the exam allows you to work as a physician associate within the NHS. You will gain skills in history taking, physical examination and diagnosis. You will also study clinical theory and undertake clinical placements.

This course will equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to qualify as a physician associate. Physician associates provide patient care within the National Health Service (NHS). They work under the supervision of doctors and health care professionals. The course will suit graduates of a bioscience discipline.

You will learn how to work to the medical model, with the attitudes, skills and knowledge base needed to deliver holistic care and treatment. You will develop your understanding of clinical practice through a combination of:
-Case based self-directed learning
-Clinical skills laboratory teaching
-Hands on experience in clinical settings

Additionally, you will develop core knowledge in preparation for the clinical workplace. This will include appropriate knowledge of:
-Anatomy

Delivery

Year one runs over 46 weeks and includes:
-Six week training in clinical, communication and diagnostic skills using mannequin-based and role play simulations
-A 27 week team-based learning course introducing core clinical knowledge through clinical case studies
-One day a week in a primary care setting developing history taking skills
-A six week apprenticeship in a hospital based setting to introduce the role of the physician associate

Year two comprises rotations in the following areas followed by a two week assessment period:
-Eight weeks of emergency medicine
-Three weeks of mental health
-Six weeks of community medicine/primary care
-Three weeks of obstetrics and gynaecology
-Three weeks of paediatrics
-Eight weeks of general medicine
-Three weeks of general surgery

You will then undertake a ten week senior apprenticeship. Trainees will work as physician associates under clinical supervision.

Placements

Alongside learning basic clinical theory you will undertake clinical placements. You will spend at least 1600 hours in clinical placements within NHS trusts and primary care providers in the North East.
