The only course of its kind in Wales, the Approved Mental Health Professional programme of study is for those intending to become Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPs). The Approved Mental Health Professional PGCert has been introduced to meet the new roles and responsibilities for professionals working with individuals who are considered for, and who become subject to compulsory hospital admission and/or treatment and aftercare introduced in the Mental Health Act 2007. One of these changes included the introduction of Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPs) who will take on the functions that hitherto have been those of the Approved Social Worker (Mental Health Act 1983).

The Approved Mental Health Professional PGCert is validated by the Care Council for Wales and is designed to meet the key competencies required by the Welsh Assembly Government and the Key Skills considered by the Care Council for Wales to be appropriate for the role.

Modules

Modules on the Approved Mental Health Professional PGCert typically include:

• Values Based Practice and Ethical Decision Making in Mental Health Services
• Policy and Law in Mental Health Services
• Understanding Mental Health and Mental Distress
• Professional Decision Making and Partnership in the Mental Health Services

Course Structure

There are four core modules for the Approved Mental Health Professional programme taught between October and April, following two induction days in September. Students study over one academic year with an arranged placement to gain practical experience.

Assessment: students of the Approved Mental Health Professional programme are assessed throughout their coursework (written assignments and a practice portfolio). The programme has a 50% pass mark for all modules.

Placements: all students the Approved Mental Health Professional programme are sponsored by their employers who have responsibility for arranging placements.

Staff Expertise

Co-Director, Dr Susan Carnes Chichlowska, is a chartered psychologist. She was awarded her PhD from Aberystwyth University (2011). Sue has been a mental health practitioner for many years and also takes a keen interest in mental health research with a special interest in older people’s health care.

Co-Director Margaret Lougher has a wealth of experience in mental health service practice and management in both the public and private sectors. She is still a practising Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) (and previously an ASW) and has proven experience in teaching and supporting students at Master’s level study. Her current specialist areas of interest are links between Mental Health Act 1983 (2007) with other relevant legislation, national and local policy and guidance, in particular the Children Acts 1989 and 2004, the Human Rights Act and Mental Capacity Act. The service user experience and developing updated methods to integrate those key messages into service delivery are central to her perspective.

Who should take this programme?

Social workers, registered mental health nurses, occupational therapists and clinical psychologists who must demonstrate that they have the support of an employer who will ensure they are provided with the necessary context within which to develop Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) skills and meet the requirements of programme’s approach to assessment; written assignments and a practice portfolio, observation of Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) practice and opportunity to carry out supported Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) assessments. For practical purposes this will almost invariably be within Local Social Service Authorities (LSSAs).

The emphasis of AMHP training is on the integration of mental health issues, psychiatry and mental health law in multi-disciplinary teams, but from a social perspective. The lecturers will reflect this multidisciplinary approach and will include psychiatrists, lawyers, psychologists, nurses and social workers, as well as service users and carers.

Students undertaking AMHP training must be supported by their employers and seconded to the training. The Employers must agree to provide a Practice Educator and an appropriate Practice Learning Placement.

To meet the requirements for AMHP, students must successfully complete the five mandatory course units and a competent Practice Portfolio.

Students who successfully complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Approved Mental Health Professional Practice will be able to progress to the Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Mental Health and, if they successfully complete the Diploma (which includes a literature review), progress to the MSc in Applied Mental Health.

Aims

The Postgraduate Certificate in Approved Mental Health Professional Practice is the only certificate which allows students to be eligible to be approved as AMHPs by Local Authorities.

It has been designed for those wishing to seek authorisation under the Mental Health Act 1983, as amended in 2007, to discharge the duties of an Approved Mental Health Professional.

The outcome is to produce knowledgeable and skilled professionals who will be able to discharge statutory responsibilities under the Mental Health Legislation, and who will also have the ability to stay abreast of cutting-edge research and development within contemporary mental health services, as well as having the capacity to translate research insights into practice.

The course aims to:
-Produce students with a systematic and integrated knowledge and understanding of mental disorders, the different models of causation, presentation, assessment and management, the different models of treatment and intervention and their outcomes
-Produce students who have sufficient knowledge and practical skills to critically apply theoretical models to practice situations both at the level of individual case planning and case management, and also at the level of policy and service development
-Produce students who can work comfortably within multi-disciplinary mental health settings, who can access and negotiate service frameworks involving a variety of statutory and non-statutory agencies, and who can successfully achieve consensus in representing their own professional view as one among several, perhaps competing, views or approaches to mental health problems
-Produce students with the ability to work in partnership with service users and their carers, and to have the ability to appreciate the perspectives of users and carers

This course is aimed at qualified experienced professionals in mental health who wish to become approved mental health professionals (AMHP).

You complete three modules to gain the postgraduate certificate, which are • values, ethics and evidence informed practice

  • mental health law and policy
  • AMHP practice (placement).

You study the application of values, ethics and dilemmas, mental health and wider associated law and policy. You also examine the current research that informs knowledge about mental health conditions and treatments. We encourage you to locate and evaluate research findings relevant to your practice.

Learning takes place in workshops, lectures, group and individual tasks and in practice as well as in private study.

During the course you develop

  • autonomous decision making and assessment skills in crisis situations
  • the ability to work with a range of professionals to promote recovery
  • the ability to work in a culturally competent way with a wide range of people in distress the skills and knowledge to apply the law in a way that reflects understanding of the impact on service users and carers

Placements are in your own agency, usually with an AMHP team. An allocated practice educator provides supervision while you shadow and then lead assessments with a range of AMHP colleagues.

Professional recognition

This course is approved by The Health and Care Professions Council.

You are eligible to be approved by your local Social Services Authority as an approved mental health professional.

Course structure

The postgraduate certificate (PgCert) is achieved by successfully completing 60 credits.

Core modules

  • Values, ethics and evidence informed practice (15 credits)

This module explores values, ethics and the research base of current interventions in mental health practice. You gain up to date knowledge from a range of experts on how practitioners can provide effective and safe interventions helping patients towards recovery. You learn to apply interventions in a way which reflects sound value base, service user and carer involvement within a multi-disciplinary arena.

  • Mental health law and policy (30 credits)

This module provides an opportunity to evaluate current law and policy initiatives in the field of mental health, explore ethical dilemmas and apply these to AMHP and other professional roles. You gain an in-depth knowledge of the AMHP role and law and policy issues as they pertain to multi-disciplinary working through the study of current law and policy, service user and carer perspectives and the roles of different professionals.

  • Approved mental health professional practice (15 credits)

This module is only open to those sponsored students who are going on to be approved as approved mental health professionals. It provides a five month placement with opportunities to demonstrate application of the law, policy, values and evidence from research when undertaking AMHP duties under supervision of an experienced, qualified AMHP practice educator. You meet the regulatory requirements for competent practice in a supported learning environment with university support from a placement tutor.

◾You will develop the capacity to think critically about the potential risks of globalising notions of mental illness. You will gain the skills to develop and implement policies aimed at reducing the burden of mental health difficulties worldwide.
◾The MSc Global Mental Health programme will help you develop the knowledge to integrate your initiatives into the wider aims of international development, and address the global inequities in the provision of mental health services.
◾The Global Mental Health MSc can offer two student placements with Compass. We offer an internal selection process whereby students are invited to submit a one page document detailing: ◾What they would hope to gain from a placement with the service

These two parts can each be scored out of 10 by members of the programme team. The top two scoring submissions are then viewed and approved by the clinician at Compass and if deemed appropriate these two applicants are offered the placement opportunites.

◾The learning outcomes (ILOs) for the programme are based on the Grand Challenges in Global Mental Health that were identified in a 2011 issue of Nature.
◾Students will have an opportunity to complete research projects with organisations doing mental health related work both nationally and internationally.
◾The MSc Global Mental Health programme at the University of Glasgow places specific emphasis on the important role that social and cultural factors play in how mental health difficulties can be understood and treated across the globe.
◾Contributors to the MSc Global Mental Health teaching come from a diverse range of disciplines including: clinical psychology, social work, anthropology, sociology, law and psychiatry. Teaching also includes contribution from those with a lived experience of mental health difficulties.
◾The Global Mental Health programme at the University of Glasgow has a formal collaboration with the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Rwanda. This partnership has fostered a range of research and teaching activities that have been jointly coordinated by staff at the respective universities. The core teaching is based around lectures. There is a strong emphasis on discussion and debate with your academic staff and fellow students, focusing on relevant research literature and policy documents. The Global Mental Health MSc has expert international contributors who provide lectures, via video linking. These are part of the teaching timetable. Gain significant recognition in your field whilst continuing to work in your own team, with our course for health and social care staff aiming to become Approved Mental Health Professionals (AMHPs).

Our course combines practice and theory to offer you the most effective learning experience. With the support from your employer, you'll shadow your local AMHP duty team to gain a valuable insight into the role. You’ll also study in university over a six-month period, while working two days a week in your own team.

You’ll learn beside a variety of professionals, from expert practitioners and service users to law professional trainers and psychiatric staff. We’ll also encourage you to visit services, such as older people wards or Child and Adolescent Mental Health, to gain further experience in clinical practice.

Before starting the course, we’ll visit you to put together a learning programme that best suits you and your teams. To prepare you for your first day, you’ll be expected to attend a five day pre-AMHP course in either August or September.

Your Practice Educator will also produce a report on how you've applied what you've learnt.

The UCL Division of Psychiatry is pleased to offer this programme focused on clinical practice in mental health and its evidence base. The Clinical Mental Health Sciences MSc integrates biological, psychological and social perspectives on mental health and caters both for psychology graduates and for clinicians wishing to undertake a broad-based, rigorous and flexible higher degree.

Degree information

Students will develop an in-depth understanding of current evidence regarding mental health problems and the interventions provided to address them, as well as enhancing their research skills. A wide range of options from across the School of Life and Medical Sciences at UCL allows students to tailor a programme that fully fits their needs.

Students undertake modules to the value of 180 credits.

The programme consists of 1–2 core double modules (30–60 credits), 4–6 optional modules (60–90 credits) and a dissertation/report (60 credits). A diploma may be awarded to students who complete the equivalent of 8 taught single modules, amounting to 120 credits. A certificate may be awarded to students who complete the equivalent of 4 taught single modules, amounting to 60 credits.

Research project/report
All students undertake a final project. This may be a research project, to be reported as a paper of 6,000-8,000 words ready for submission to a specified journal, a blog of 1,000 words and a 20-minute talk, or a clinical project of 10,000 words reporting on a clinical topic or service evaluation.

Teaching and learning
The programme is delivered through lectures, seminars and workshops, with considerable use of supporting online learning. Assessment methods include one unseen examination, coursework including designing questionnaires and protocols and analysing data, giving talks and presenting posters, and a final report in the format of a journal paper or brief for clinicians or service planners.

Placement
The programme team support students in obtaining volunteer placements in relevant mental health care and research settings, but this is not a formal part of the course and is entirely optional.

Careers

For non-clinicians, the programme will be an excellent grounding for clinical training, such as in clinical psychology, or for embarking on a research career in mental health. Many graduates go on to research assistant, clinical support worker or assistant psychologist posts as a first destination. For clinicians, this is a great opportunity to gain a higher qualification through a programme based in a leading university department which can be closely tailored to your interests across clinical, research and management fields.

Employability
Students will be taught by leading experts in their fields, will gain a strong clinical understanding of mental health, and will be able to develop their skills in research, service design and evaluation, and writing and presenting. Previous Division of Psychiatry Master’s graduates have been enthusiastic about their career enhancement, both through their programme and the connections they have made through it. A large proportion of our first cohort of graduates have gone on to paid employment in relevant areas of mental health, especially research assistant, clinical support worker, psychological wellbeing practitioner and assistant psychologist posts. Others have embarked on PhD studies.

MSc Nursing (Mental Health) Course Structure

The 2-year MSc in Nursing (Mental Health) is open to applicants who have already completed an honours degree and have a minimum of 750 hours’ experience in a healthcare setting in the last year.

The curriculum for the MSc in Nursing is designed to meet the needs of the changing demography in the wider population and the emerging health needs. A range of teaching and learning strategies are implemented to engage the learner including simulation, practice learning, lectures, skills rehearsals, and online digital learning resources.

Practice based learning is central to the students’ development, and Nursing (Mental Health) students will spend 40 weeks of their course on placement. Here they will gain experience in a diverse range of nursing settings, including community, nursing homes, and hospitals.

The Nursing (Mental Health) programme has been designed to develop the students’ personal and professional attributes, knowledge and skills required of a newly registered nurse.

The Nursing (Mental Health) course does not follow the usual University term times. The academic year starts in early September and ends late the following August. 

50% of the teaching for Nursing students will take place in healthcare placements, and the other 50% will be taught at university.

The MSc Nursing (Mental Health) is made up of five modules:

Module 1 – Introduction to Nursing

Module 2 - Living with Long-term and Chronic Conditions

Year 2

Module 3 – Managing Complex Care in Deteriorating Situations

Module 4 – Leadership & Decision-making

Teaching is based on a social model and Nursing (Mental Health) students will be taught to appreciate healthcare and the well- being of the patient in the wider context. A range of teaching methods will be adopted in order to provide a stimulating learning environment. These will include; lectures, guided reading, seminars, discussion groups, scenarios, distance learning, practical sessions, simulated practice and Enquiry Based Learning.

Assessments will enable Nursing (Mental Health) students to develop creative, critical thinking and decision-making skills. Students will learn how to deal with real-life situations in the form of Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE), poster presentations and will even write a journal article ready for publication.

Fees and Funding for Nursing (Mental Health) Course

There are no tuition fees to pay for the MSc Nursing (Mental Health) for UK / EU students.

To be eligible for WEDS funding international students must have residency for 3 years (working and living) in the United Kingdom. EU area students can also apply. Standard fees apply for international students.

Are you looking to develop the competencies that are required to become an Approved Clinician for the purposes of the Mental Health Act 1983? Do you want to enhance your ability to manage challenges that you face within a mental health context as a psychiatrist, psychologist, nurse, occupational therapist or social worker?

As a professional practice course, there are no specific topics that must be covered. Instead the emphasis is very much on what you need to study in order to prepare yourself for the Approved Clinician role and/or to continue your professional development.

At the start you will be encouraged to write a learning proposal that identifies your specific learning objectives. You will then work towards these objectives through undertaking further continuing professional development (CPD), reflecting on your CPD and ultimately through completion of a work-based project. On completion you should have developed the skills and knowledge you need for you to make an application to be an Approved Clinician, if that is your goal.

Please note, optional module choices will be grouped and will run in designated blocks, meaning some module combinations will not be possible. Although every effort is made to ensure that these modules are offered, there may be occasions, for example due to staff sabbaticals, where a module may not be offered or module running order may change.

The UCL Division of Psychiatry offers teaching and supervision from leaders in international research in fields from neuroscientific to social and epidemiological, along with a range of relevant options from other leading UCL departments. This diversity of options allows students to tailor a programme that closely fits their needs.

Degree information

This programme will equip students with the research skills needed to undertake doctoral-level research and/or to collaborate in major research projects. They will produce a piece of original research ready to submit for publication, and will acquire current knowledge of cutting-edge research in mental health.

Students undertake modules to the value of 180 credits. The programme consists of two core modules (45 credits), five optional modules (75 credits) and a dissertation/report (60 credits).

Final report
All students undertake a final research project. This is reported as a research paper of 6,000-8,000 words ready for submission to a specified journal, a blog of 1,000 words and a 20-minute talk.

Teaching and learning
This programme is delivered through a combination of lectures, seminars and practical workshops, with considerable use of supporting online learning. Assessment methods include unseen exams, coursework including designing questionnaires and systematic review strategies, developing protocols, analysing data, giving talks and presenting posters. There is a strong emphasis on developing practical research skills.

Careers

This new programme will equip graduates with strong practical research skills and understanding of the current status and direction of mental health research in their area of interest, preparing them to pursue doctoral studies, including through applications for nationally funded fellowships. Clinicians will be equipped to participate fully in collaborative studies and to begin to function as independent investigators. For those without clinical qualifications, the programme is likely to assist students in embarking on a career in mental health research by obtaining research posts and opportunities for PhD places.

In undertaking the role of MHO, candidates are able to contribute positively to care and treatment of those experiencing mental disorder by ensuring an approach that recognises the impact of social as well as medical circumstances on their lives.

Key aim

The purpose is to train social workers for the role of MHO.

This is as defined in Section 32 of the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) (Scotland) Act 2003, and as qualified by the direction of the Scottish Ministers (Requirements for appointment as Mental Health Officers) Direction (January 2009).

In 2007, the SSSC published a new set of standards and practice competencies for MHO training. This stated that the certificate must be:
- provided by a university, within a programme provider partnership
- delivered at SCQF Level 11, which equates with Masters level
- be approved by the SSSC as a specialist course

The delivery partnership

A partnership was established to develop and deliver the new Postgraduate Certificate in Mental Health Social Work Award. It involves:
- the University of Strathclyde
- Glasgow Caledonian University
- 13 local authorities in the West of Scotland, represented by the Scottish Social Services Council Learning Network West

The University of Strathclyde is the administering university for the award.
You’ll be registered with us for the duration of the course, and will be subject to our rules and requirements.

You’ll study

The course is taught over the period of an academic year, normally August to June. You’ll complete two modules.

Work placement

An assessed period of practice is integral to each of the two modules on this course. The assessed practice runs through each module and runs from September to December in Module 1 and February to May in Module 2. The practice experience can only be undertaken in the candidates’ employing local authority supervised by a suitably qualified member of staff (Practice Assessor), supported by the course team.

Course awards

The course has been externally evaluated and assessed as producing Mental Health Officers who are competent to practice from the perspective of the local authorities who employ the candidates on completion of the award. In addition, the candidates, despite the intensity of the workload, praised the experience of undertaking the course. The course is the only MHO award in Scotland where recruitment remains high.

Open days and events

Workshops to prepare candidates for applying to the programme are provided in January each year. This includes an overview of the programme as well as a detailed explanation of what an application for the programme should contain. Information and selection handbooks are circulated to all local authorities in December each year to prepare candidates for the event.

Entry requirements

- Applicants must:
1. Be nominated by their employing local authority, be supported by their employing local authority and be provided with appropriate learning opportunities.

2. Hold a professional social work qualification recognised by SSSC. These include:
- BA (Hons) Social Work
- Diploma in Social Work (DipSW)
- Certificate of Qualification in Social Work (CQSW) together with its predecessor qualifications
- Certificate in Social Service (CSS)

If you trained abroad, a letter of comparability with the CQSW or a letter of verification issued by SSSC (or another registering Council in the UK) will be required.

3. Normally have a minimum of two years post-qualifying experience. You should be able to demonstrate that you've improved and extended the level of competence acquired when you qualified.

4. Satisfy the programme provider that you have the capacity to achieve the Mental Health Officer standards, that you can be competently demonstrated as eligible to be appointed as a Mental Health Officer, and can achieve the award at SCQF Level 11 by:
- critically reviewing your professional development since qualifying as a social worker. This should include issues of effective communication with adults who have individual communication support needs, and working with professional tensions, challenges and conflicts. Also included should be evidence from workload of challenging discrimination and demonstrating an understanding of what's meant by this

- analysing interest in, and motivation for, undertaking mental health work including the extensive networking and collaborative practice involved

- showing developed skills in empowering clients. This should be particularly in relation to developing their understanding of their rights to legal support and advocacy, and their views about how their needs may be more effectively met through complex decision making processes

- exploring current awareness of the Mental Health Officer role, the complexity of the power/control issues involved and how you would use Mental Health Officer training in your current work setting

Selection for the programme is a collaborative process across the provider partnership and consists of:
- application
- interview (if applicable)
- selection decision phases

These will verify your:
- eligibility in relation to registration as a social worker with the SSSC
experience
- preparedness and capacity for the specialist role
- eligibility for the programme of study within the universities

The process will also provide feedback to you and your agency about any further preparation or experience necessary before the programme starts.

Final decision on acceptance to the course within the parameters of the minimum standards described lies with the Joint Course Management Committee.

Careers

Successful graduates from this programme will immediately be appointed as Mental Health Officers (MHOs) by their local authority, negating the requirement to seek employment as an MHO.

This appointment can lead candidates into promoted posts, eg senior practitioner and management roles. As the role of the MHO is a statutory requirement for local authorities, graduates become members of a small but essential workforce that aims to promote the rights of people with mental disorders as well as ensuring appropriate access to treatment when required.

The MHO workforce is currently under resourced and, as such, qualified MHOs are in high demand across Scotland, obtaining the award, therefore, enhances the employability of all graduates.

Recent years have seen increased attention on the field of global health as a major driver of development, international co-operation and diplomacy. Global health is a multidisciplinary field of study that takes a global perspective on the state of people’s health, and enhances knowledge and implementation of effective intervention strategies through a systematic examination of health problems and their determinants.

This course is particularly suited to individuals working, or planning to work, in enhancing population health in middle or low-income countries, within governmental (eg Ministry of Health), non-governmental or intergovernmental organisations (eg WHO or UN agencies). It will equip you to work effectively at a senior level to promote the health and social wellbeing of populations through the development of effective and responsive health systems. It will orient you to issues in which staff at the Institute are recognised to have made world-leading research contributions, such as supporting health systems strengthening in fragile and conflict-affected states, and mental health and psychosocial support for vulnerable populations. Participants are typically drawn from a broad range of backgrounds, including physicians, nurses, health ministries and the NGO sector.

Teaching, learning and assessment

Teaching is comprised of a combination of lectures, seminars, tutorials, case studies, simulation exercises and projects. Assessment is  continuous and incorporates assignments, action plans, projects and examinations. For their dissertation projects, students can chose to collect desk-based studies, or conduct primary data collection in collaboration with national or international organisations working in health and development.

Teaching hours and attendance

Each module which you study on campus will require you to attend classes and carry out independent work. Your exact attendance  requirements at QMU will depend on which module you are studying and whether you are studying full or part time. Modules typically run over five weeks and involve two sessions of three hours in class each week. In addition, for each module students spend around 10-12 hours of each week on preparatory class work independently and with colleagues, including readings and exercises available on dedicated web-based learning platforms.

Modules

Students study core modules totalling 60 credits addressing such subjects as Global Health and Social Policy; Researching Global Health and Development; Global Public Health; and Health Systems. A further 60 credits are then selected from the broad range of classes available within the Institute or from other QMU programmes recognised as of relevance. The former includes modules such as Qualitative Research Methods, Gender Health and Development, Sexual and Reproductive Health, Social Development Policy and Practice and a range of elective classes available subject to student demand.

The latter includes modules related to leadership, research, advocacy and specialised fields of study such as nutrition and epidemiology.

For the MSc award you will then complete a dissertation on an approved topic related to global heath and development (60 credits).

As a graduate you will be well equipped for employment as a global health practitioner, senior health manager or policy maker working in, or advising regarding, a developing country or one in economic transition. Why study Psychology of Mental Health at Dundee?

The MSc in the Psychology of Mental Health draws upon the recognised expertise of numerous research-active and clinical staff, and will address a broad range of material, including the scientific study of mental health problems, addiction and eating disorders. Postgraduate culture

We have a close postgraduate community with a diverse combination of nationalities. The School runs a Postgraduate seminar and a departmental seminar twice weekly throughout teaching semesters, with invited speakers to the seminars. How you will be assessed

The course is assessed by coursework only.

Each module is worth 20 credits apart from the Research Dissertation Module which is worth 60 credits. The total number of credits awarded is 180 for an MSc course.

Careers

The course will provide a first year of research training for students intending to continue with postgraduate research or further professional training within mental health or Clinical Psychology.

We expect that this course will significantly improve the chances of students gaining a place on Clinical Psychology Courses as well as providing overseas students with a basic training for job opportunities in their home countries.

Overseas Academic Scholarships

The School of Psychology offers three Overseas Academic Scholarships of £3,000 each to overseas (international) taught postgraduate students. These awards are competitive based on academic merit and a personal statement which details and supports the applicant's interest in their chosen taught postgraduate programme. The deadline to apply for this scholarship is 30th June 2014.

This course, offered by the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, is designed for health professionals currently in, or seeking to be in, middle and senior health care management positions. If you are seeking to expand your knowledge and skills in the management of health services, this degree caters for your needs. This includes medical or general hospital administrators, clinicians, quality assurance managers, team leaders, senior nursing administrators, unit managers and a range of general task coordinators within the health care system.

If you are working or planning to work in middle or senior management roles in health care, this course will help you prepare for and advance your career.

The course coordinator, Professor Just Stoelwinder, is one of Australia's most senior and respected health care managers and management and policy academics.

You will complete eight core and three elective units.

Part A. Advanced Healthcare Administration and Management
These studies provide you with a comprehensive study of health services management and administration, enabling you to gain advanced skills and knowledge. This includes in areas of health system laws, clinical leadership and management, quality improvement, financial and information management, health policy and health services development.

Part B. Extending specialist knowledge electives
These studies enable you to develop specialised knowledge and advanced skills in areas that suit your interests, skills and career goals. The theoretical and practical skills you gain are consolidated through the completion of a case study, in which you focus on exploring in detail a complex health services management problem within your workplace or within a health care setting.
