New Funding Opportunities for Welsh Postgraduates in 2019-20

There’s some exciting news for Welsh students hoping to study a Masters in Wales, with the Welsh Government announcing three new bursaries:

  • £4,000 for students who are 60 or over to study a Masters degree in Wales in 2019-20
  • £2,000 for students to study a Masters in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or Medicine (STEMM) subjects
  • £1,000 for Welsh-language Masters courses

If you want to find out more about these bursaries and how to apply, you should contact your university directly. Alternatively, you can read the Welsh Government’s press release on the bursaries.

You can also check out over 1,000 Welsh Masters programmes on our website right now.

Masters bursaries for students who are 60 or over

This £4,000 bursary is particularly good news for Welsh students in that age bracket – over-60s aren’t eligible for Student Finance Wales’ full £17,000 funding package, which is only available to those who are 59 or under.

The Welsh Government is also offering £2,000 bursaries to people – of all ages – to study Masters in STEMM subjects at Welsh universities. This bursary is available to Welsh residents and EU nationals.

Masters bursaries for Welsh-language courses

If you study a Masters in Welsh, you can also apply for a £1,000 bursary. This is part of the Welsh Government’s drive towards increasing the number of Welsh speakers in the country.

Don’t forget that these bursaries are available in addition to the postgraduate funding already offered by Student Finance Wales – so, depending on your circumstances, you could receive a generous financial boost!

Exact details regarding applications and eligibility are somewhat scarce at the moment, but we’ll make sure you’re the first to hear about any updates via our weekly newsletter.
