#1 MA Magic and Occult Sciences at the University of Exeter

This one’s for all those who’re still waiting for their Hogwarts acceptance letter! University of Exeter’s Magic and Occult MA offers a deep dive into esoterism, witchcraft and ritual magic. You’ll need a 2:2 honours degree in a relevant subject, a cloak and a functioning cauldron (we made the last part up!).

Travel back in time to the beginnings of everything gothic with the University of Portsmouth’s distance learning MA Victorian Gothic: History, Literature and Culture as you delve into the ‘anxieties and enchantments’ of the 19th century. You’ll need a second-class honours degree in a relevant subject. If Dracula and Frankenstein are your favourite novels, this might be the course for you.

#3 MA Death, Religion and Culture at the University of Winchester

Despite its sombre title, you can be sure the University of Winchester’s MA in Death, Religion and Culture is far from bleak. With modules like Theology of Death and Philosophical Approaches to Mourning, the course provides a meaningful exploration of death and dying. You’ll be well prepared for careers in bereavement counselling, teaching or as a church minister once you graduate.

#4 MA Irish Mythology and Folklore (Online) at University College Cork, Ireland

Get your best Leprechaun costume ready for a deep dive into Irish tales and folklore! University College Cork’s MA Irish Mythology and Folklore is fully online with modules exploring gender, kinship and the supernatural in Irish myths. If you have a second-class honours grade and are interested in jobs at museums, archives, media houses and heritage and cultural bodies, this course is for you!

#5 MA Ritual Chant and Song at the University of Limerick

You’re got your witchy costume, your cauldron and even a toffee apple flavoured bubbling brew. But, it’s incomplete without a spooky song! Learn all about ritualistic songs and chants at the University of Limerick. The MA Ritual Chant and Song combines theory and practical elements to take a deeper look into Western plainchant, Irish traditional ritual songs and other ritual vocal elements. Along with having a relevant undergraduate degree, you’ll also have to attend an interview and audition.
