Scholarship details
The Philip Hans Franses Scholarship is named after our emeritus Dean and eminent econometrician Philip Hans Franses. He has made important contributions to our School and to the field of econometrics. With this scholarship he hopes to inspire students to bring out the best in themselves and make a difference. The Philip Hans Franses Scholarship is meant for master students from a non-EEA country.
To qualify for the Philip Hans Franses Scholarship, an applicant:
- Must not have previously enrolled as a full-degree Master student in the Netherlands. However, completing a Pre-master at Erasmus School of Economics and progressing to a Master there in 2026–2027 is allowed.
- Must be a national of a non-EEA country.
- Must be selected for one of the following programmes: Master Accounting, Auditing and Control; Master Econometrics and Management Science; Master Economics and Business.
- Must have registered for one of these Master programmes via Studielink and submitted all application documents in the EUR Application Portal before 1 February 2027. Current ESE pre-master students can contact for their procedure.
- Must have excellent secondary school results, with an average grade of at least 8.0 (scale 1–10).
- Must demonstrate financial need through a detailed financial statement explaining their situation and how they will cover living expenses.
- Must have completed the immigration application. The deadline is 10 July, but scholarship applicants should submit it by May.
- Must be enrolled no later than 1 September of the academic year for which the scholarship is requested.
To apply for the Philip Hans Franses Scholarship, you need to prepare the following documents:
- Motivation letter: stating your motivation to study at Erasmus School of Economics, showing evidence of being an excellent student and demonstrating why the scholarship would enlarge the opportunity to study at Erasmus School of Economics (max. two A4, font Arial, font size 11).
- Financial statement: describing your financial situation and the reason and need to receive the scholarship (max. one A4, font Arial, font size 11).
- Budget plan: overview explaining how you plan to finance your studies in case you will receive Philip Hans Franses Scholarship using the template on the website.
- Certified copy of your (most recent) academic transcript.
- Certified statement from your educational institution confirming your obtained GPA. The GPA template document on the website can be used for this. You can also provide a statement from your home University, but it is important that this statement contains the same information as our standard statement.
