Our innovative programmes enable students to develop subject expertise and highly relevant skills for the future.

An award-winning faculty

At the 2014 Student-Led Teaching Awards, Humanities and Social Sciences won the Faculty of the Year award for the quality of the student experience. Dr Elena Woodacre, Lecturer in Early Modern European History, won Best Lecturer for Constructive and Efficient Feedback and Julie Doyle, Senior Administrator for Applied Social Studies/Sociology Administrator, won Course Administrator of the Year. At the 2015 awards ceremony, the Faculty was very well represented with by far the most shortlisted nominees of all the four faculties. Our research

In addition to being dedicated lecturers, our academic staff are active researchers who contribute to a lively, varied and high-quality research environment. We achieved strong results in the most recent Research Excellent Framework (REF2014), and attract many postgraduate students. We are actively engaged in research and knowledge exchange through our research centres and consultancies, and the many projects carried out in the Departments.
