The department is recognised for its world-class learning environment and its international reputation for generating new knowledge. It was ranked 7th in the UK in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2016.
Our links with industry enable that our teaching is relevant and meaningful, and our facilities, which include the largest road materials testing facility in the UK, a strong floor facility for major structural testing, an extensive hydraulics laboratory, an atmospheric boundary layer wind tunnel and soil and rock mechanics laboratories, have benefited from a recent £1.5 million investment.
