Sustainable Fashion is the study of how clothing and textiles can be produced in a way that is environmentally and socially responsible. It is an interdisciplinary field which draws on knowledge and practices from a range of disciplines including Fashion Design, Ecology, Environmental Science and Social Anthropology.
By studying a Masters in Sustainable Fashion, you’ll gain an understanding of the fashion industry and its impact on the environment, knowledge of sustainable design principles and an ability to create garments that are environmentally friendly.
You will learn about the environmental and social impacts of the fashion industry, and how to minimise these impacts through design and manufacturing processes. You will also develop your knowledge of sustainable materials and how to use them in fashion products.
You could study the uses of recycled (or up-cycled) materials, the importance of fair employment practices and how to use less water in the manufacturing process.
There are many careers available for those with a Masters in Sustainable Fashion. Some examples include working as a designer for a sustainable fashion label, working in sustainable fashion merchandising, or working as a sustainable fashion consultant.
