A Masters in Physician Associate Studies prepares students to work as physician assistants (or associates). Physician associates are healthcare professionals who provide direct patient care and support in a variety of clinical settings, usually under the supervision of a doctor or GP.
By doing a Masters in Physician Associate Studies, you’ll receive training in a range of diagnostic, therapeutic and preventative healthcare services.
Most programmes in this area combine theoretical study and lab work with the opportunity to complete clinical placements in hospitals and other healthcare settings. Taking place over two years, the majority of your second year will be spent on placement as a trainee physician associate.
At the end of the programme, you’ll be able to take the physician associate national certification and recertification examination (PANE), run by the Faculty of Physician Associates (FPA). Once you’ve successfully passed this exam, you can register yourself as an accredited physician associate.
