Limerick is a historic city in Ireland, at the head of the Shannon Estuary, opening onto the country’s western coast. It is home to several universities and other higher education institutions, with around 20,000 resident students.
Having played an important role in various periods of Irish history, Limerick retains many attractive historical features and heritage sites. Its pleasant city centre is located on King’s Island, which sits between the River Shannon and its smaller distributary, the Abbey River.
