"If you're thinking about doing the PGDE at UWS, go for it. Believe in yourself. It's a really great university to study at and it's a really good course. The lecturers all have really good knowledge and they're really helpful.

The MSc International Events Management course at the University of the West of Scotland is not only interesting but also extremely engaging. Thanks to the support and guidance from academic team involved in running the course, I was able to experience the best teaching which enabled me to increase my knowledge of events practices and the events industry. The course was rich with students from a range of international backgrounds and this was useful when discussing issues from different perspectives. My time studying on the course has been key in helping me decide what I want to do in the future and I can’t wait to develop my career within the events industry.

The MPH really improved my confidence and group working skills, by allowing me to work with individuals whose cultural background was much different from my own. This allowed me to explore ideas from different perspectives I had not thought of before. The course itself developed my understanding of critical thinking, focusing on aspects like health inequality and inequity across the globe, and how government policies can play a role in these factors. Thanks to the MPH, I have been able to move into a career in Clinical Trial Management, recently becoming a Clinical Trial Co-ordinator. In the future I would like to use the MPH for a career within local Health Boards

Completing the MSc Advanced Biomedical Science has been a wonderful and rewarding experience. I felt completely supported by the university staff and learned a lot that I’m sure will shape my practice in the future. The coursework is designed to encourage contemplation and enhance essential, transferable skills such as communication, data analysis and critical thinking. I would absolutely recommend this course to anyone wishing to pursue or advance a career in Biomedical Science.

Completing the MSc in Applied Social Science (Criminal Justice) at UWS has given me the skills and experience to develop, immensely, both academically and personally, and to pursue a career in research. In particular, being given the opportunity to complete a practice-based dissertation in collaboration with Police Scotland was a fantastic and unique opportunity to conduct meaningful ‘real-world’ research and has helped transform me into a more confident researcher. The course offered me the flexibility to pursue my own academic interests in greater depth alongside expert, helpful staff. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending the course to anyone looking to further explore their interests within the social sciences, or to those building a career in policy, practice or research.

After completing a Bachelor of Science in Adult Nursing at UWS, I gained employment as a registered nurse in the NHS where I worked in a clinical role for several years. I began to develop an interest in the role of technology in advancing healthcare and discovered a passion for computing science by learning aspects of programming in my spare time. I then decided to purse that passion academically through postgraduate study, with the goal of furthering my skill set and changing to a new career in technological research.

“The University’s School of Computing, Engineering and Physical Sciences has an excellent research network and connections with industrial partners which I found appealing. I completed my undergraduate degree at UWS which was such an enjoyable experience that I decided to return for postgraduate study.

This is just the kind of training future filmmakers need. It is rare to find and we applaud the efforts made by UWS.

“I got to build a website, which I have never done before. There’s always information about a new trend I wouldn’t have heard of. The lecturers are up-to-date with the recent happenings.”

As a medical doctor, the MSc Psychology (Conversion) course provided me with the knowledge of psychological principles and research experience required to further my career, allowing me to make the switch to field of Psychology. The modules are carefully designed, and cover a variety of key domains in psychology, with quality teaching and sufficient support. With confidence gained from the course, I have successfully applied to commence a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology later this year!

I wanted to branch out and learn new skills that I could put to good use in my career or in my volunteer capacities. UWS is one of the best universities there is to develop your talent and skills.

As an international MSc Psychology (Conversion) student, adapting to new study patterns was challenging, but the lecturer's support helped me overcome initial hurdles and thrive in this new academic environment. Their guidance and feedback have been invaluable, and I've been impressed by top-notch teaching. The student support services are excellent offering help for both academic and personal issues. This program fits my career goals, providing the theory and skills needed for success in psychology. It was a truly rewarding journey

Throughout the course, my tutor has sent me several job opportunities and thanks to this help I have now secured a graduate role with Raytheon on their Quality Management Leadership Development course

People recognise the MBA as a credible course that gives you a very good understanding of business. I mentioned to a contact that I had completed the MBA and he immediately asked me to send him my CV. Through that connection I was able to secure my current job

The University’s MSc Project Management was excellent and enabled me to develop both personally and professionally. I was able to study 100% online, meaning it was possible to manage studying around my work schedule and family commitments. This course has opened up opportunities for career progression that would otherwise have been unavailable. In addition, it allowed me to refine my existing skillset whist expanding my knowledge base and learning new ways of doing things. This increased my confidence and gave me the self-belief to peruse a promoted post

I undertook the programme at the same time that I started in my Service Manager role. The knowledge and understanding throughout my learning journey has had a profound impact on my leadership and general outlook at work. Each module was relevant and applicable to my everyday working practice. I honestly do not know where I would be as a leader if I hadn’t started my Master’s when I did. Ultimately, I now have the qualification that will open doors to me both for interest and promotion

This MSc programme has worked in partnership with my career progression. I feel that distance learning was the only way I could commit to studying whilst coping with the demands of working full-time and my personal life. I could not get through the course without the encouragement and support from the lecturers who are amazing at providing reassurance and guidance when needed.

I attended the MA Music Industries course at UWS in 2018. I had previously achieved my BA in Commercial Music and had really enjoyed the experience. My professional career as the guitarist in Glasvegas had taken me around the world touring and releasing music; however, many of my preconceived notions of the music industries were challenged during the completion of the course. I walked away with a far broader understanding of the underlying mechanisms which make music a financially viable product from creation to consumption. One of the best elements of the course was the interaction with other like-minded students. There were eight students from various disciplines with a number attending from the USA and Europe which resulted in some great conversations and the sharing of knowledge.

This programme opened up opportunities for higher study. The course content and practical training made me confident enough to do research and teaching on advanced reproductive biotechnology. While studying at UWS, I was given the opportunity to do a PhD at Kyushu University in Japan on a Japanese Government Scholarship. Now I am a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Kansas Medical Centre, conducting research on female reproductive physiology, i.e. placental biology

Being a clinician, I found that the course helped broaden my knowledge base and my views. The reading material for the first year modules was particularly interesting. The experience of conducting a research study with an experienced supervisor was invaluable.

The MSc Policy Analysis and Global Governance allowed me to develop my understanding of the policy landscape and equipped me with an invaluable insight into the various methodologies utilised across the policy landscape. The variety of modules available on the course, enabled me to develop a wider understanding of the multi-disciplinary skills required to develop robust policies that will improve people’s lives. The course content was very practical and provided me with a real insight into the practical working environment which I now work in.

I can't recommend this course strongly enough, not only for its content but more importantly for the supportive and collaborative way in which it is delivered. From a third sector perspective, it is easy to get caught up and this course really helped move me out of that space and open up new ways of thinking in my work setting. Being able to talk through the concepts and share perspectives with colleagues from across a range of practice settings was also hugely helpful
