With origins dating back to 1897, UWS is an international university with over 80 European partners and a student body drawn from over one third of the globe. Our practically-focused and applied teaching is reinforced by an applied research underpinning and UWS was classified as producing world-class and internationally excellent research in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework; ranked in the top 100 research institutions in the UK and 12th in the Million+ group of UK universities. We are currently working with companies and organisations such as Mars, Celestica, the Scottish Government, Honeywell, Diagio, Philips Lighting, Dupont, Network Rail, the BBC, Tata Steel, NASA, the National Health Service, and Oxfam.

Reinforcing our applied research, we have recently launched two new professional doctorate programmes (Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) and Professional Doctorate (DProf)) to provide a professional equivalent to the traditional PhD research programme for busy professionals seeking to make a change to their professions through undertaking a programme of taught study and applied research.
