You might have read or heard a lot about Sweden already: the Vikings, Scandinavia, beautiful nature, the Nobel Prize, Volvo, and IKEA in a modern, sustainable country with a high living standard. Maybe you’ve even heard about the football star Zlatan Ibrahimovic. What you perhaps didn’t know is that Sweden is one of the most innovative countries in the world and that it tops the 2019 Innovation Union Scoreboard of the European Commission.

And did you know that Sweden has one of the best educational systems in the world or that Swedes are said to be the world’s best non-native English speakers? No wonder more and more international students find their way to Sweden to study on a bachelor’s or master’s programme that is taught in English.

About University West

University West is a modern university offering programmes that are in close collaboration with working life in an attractive, modern study environment. The university has about 15,000 students and 625 employees. The campus is centrally located in the town of Trollhättan, close to cafés, cinemas, restaurants, and sports facilities, but also very close to beautiful landscapes. The campus is constructed with students’ needs in focus.

Work Integrated Learning – linking education with working life

University West is founded on the principle that knowledge is acquired everywhere, not just in the classroom. Integrating work situations into study programmes – so-called Work Integrated Learning – exemplifies the important relationship between the university and the outside world.

Work Integrated Learning provides students with many opportunities to learn from real working life situations through, for example, project work, field studies, mentorship projects, and sometimes even work placements.

Small-scale, informal and personal

At University West, students experience an open, informal study environment. Usually students and instructors are on a first-name basis. This approach encourages dialogue and collaboration between students and the teaching staff, thus stimulating opportunities for new ideas and innovations.

Unlike many other universities, the international programmes at University West have a small-scale character. A relatively high teacher-student ratio results in academic staff being easy accessible for answering questions, discussions, and feedback.

About Trollhättan

University West is located near the west coast of southern Sweden in Trollhättan, a 35-minute train ride from Sweden’s second largest city, Gothenburg. The town, with its 60,000 inhabitants, is intersected by the Göta River and its spectacular waterfalls. You don’t have to waste time in traffic queues or feel stressed in overcrowded subways. As a student in Trollhättan you have all you need close by. A few minutes’ walk from campus you’ll find yourself in beautiful, natural landscapes.

Trollhättan is home to a number of high-tech companies, like GKN Aero¬space (producing jet engines and developing rocket engine technology) and the Chinese NEVS (National Electric Vehicle Sweden – developing its platform for the future generation of electric cars in the former SAAB Automobile factory).
