Durham University, Department of Philosophy Masters Degrees

Durham has one of the largest philosophy postgraduate communities in the UK, with around fifty taught and research postgraduate studying here at any one time. We provide a welcoming, supportive, friendly and stimulating research environment for all our students. Students are invited to participate in a range of activities, including reading groups, research seminars, Royal Institute of Philosophy Lectures and meetings of EIDOS, our postgraduate philosophy society.

The postgraduate journal Philosophical Writings is also based here and managed by our postgraduate students. Our "postgraduate numbers, support and culture" were described by the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise Philosophy Sub-panel as "exemplary".
