About the Faculty of Humanities

The Faculty of Humanities offers modern learning environments that support both independent study and collaboration. Teaching takes place in well-equipped classrooms and digital learning spaces designed to foster dialogue, innovation, and critical reflection.

Humanities cover a wide range of programmes and research fields which all have basis in human beings and their relationship with the outside world in common. Focus and concern is on human thoughts, creative arts and communication from different perspectives and in many historical and geographic settings.

Research and education at the faculty share a common focus on human thought, creativity, communication, and the relationship between individuals and society across historical and global contexts.

SDU is home to a large and diverse international community of students and researchers, creating a dynamic academic environment with strong global perspectives.

All international students at the Faculty of Humanities are guaranteed housing close to campus, ensuring a smooth transition to life in Denmark.



The Faculty of Humanities has campuses in Odense and Kolding, both vibrant student cities offering rich cultural environments. Odense, Denmark’s third-largest city, combines urban life with green surroundings, while Kolding is known for its strong focus on design and innovation. Both cities offer affordable housing, cultural events, museums, cafés, and creative communities, all within easy reach of campus. English is widely spoken in Denmark, making it easy for international students to settle in.

At SDU, more than 100 student associations create opportunities to engage socially and academically. Throughout the academic year popular events such as the Semester Start Party, the Annual University Celebration, and Student Unity Day, bringing everyone together for fun, music, and socialising.
