Hanken School of Economics (Svenska Handelshögskolan) is a leading university with 110 years of experience in research and education in economics and business administration. Hanken holds the three most prestigious accreditations for business schools, EQUIS, AACSB and AMBA, which only one percent of business schools worldwide have achieved. Our master's programme is ranked 57th in the Financial Times Masters in Management ranking 2024, positioning Hanken as one of the three highest ranked business schools in the Nordic region. We offer study programmes on all levels (BSc, MSc and PhD) at two locations, in Helsinki and Vaasa. About the Hanken School of Economics

Hanken School of Economics is a leading, internationally accredited university with more than 110 years of experience in education and research in economics and business administration. Hanken's strategy includes profiling the school as a genuinely international and research-oriented business school with close ties to the corporate world. We offer academic programmes on all levels (BSc, MSc and PhD) at two locations, in Helsinki and Vaasa.

The Master's programme in English is mainly a 2-year-long programme (120 ECTS) and the studies are full-time studies on-site at the campus that you get admitted to. At the end of the 2 years, the Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration degree is awarded.

Hanken offers master’s degree studies in English in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Intellectual Property and Business Law, International Strategy and Sustainability, Marketing, Marketing and Management, and Supply Chain Management. Starting 2025, Hanken also offers a one-year double degree programme in Sustainability Reporting and Financial Analysis. The programme is also full-time and taught on-site, first in Umeå, Sweden, and then in Vaasa, Finland.

Hanken offers scholarships for students liable for tuition fees, normally in the form of tuition fee waivers. The number of scholarships is very limited, and merit-based. All scholarships are awarded to the highest-achieving applicants based on the programme's evaluation criteria. Among the regular Hanken scholarships there are no scholarships that cover the full tuition fee or living costs, which is why applicants must have a solid financial background.

Student life at the Hanken School of Economics

Hanken not only offers a high-quality and sought-after education – a study place at Hanken also opens the doors to a fun student life.

To make sure that you profit from your study time, Hanken's student union, The Student Union of Hanken School of Economics, SHS and SSHV (in Vaasa) is at your service. Regardless of where you study, thanks to SHS and SSHV, you will find activities for you – even outside of your studies. There are multiple clubs and committees available for you to join, such as different sports clubs or party committees. You will always find events that you can join – no matter if you are interested in sports, culture, or parties!

SHS and SSHV also make sure that all new students get a tutor group or tutors, who will help you navigate your studies, student life, bureaucracy and show you around the new city. It is also thanks to the student union that you get to take advantage of many nice student discounts and events. There are multiple UNI cafés available around the city where you can enjoy lunch for only 3 €, and you also get student discounts for public transportation, gym memberships and museums etc. There is also student accommodation and student health care for lower fees.

How and when do I apply?

You can apply within the rolling admission round 23.1 – 16.4.2025 and main admission round in January 2026.

Is there a tuition fee?

In Finland, tuition fees are collected from students who are not citizens of the European Union (EU) or the European Economic Area (EEA) member states or Switzerland. The tuition fee for master’s studies 15 000 euro/academic year. Read more.
