Department of Anthropology
Anthropology is the comparative study of culture and society, asking what humans have in common and what makes societies and cultures different. For more than 120 years, the Department of Anthropology at LSE has helped shape the discipline, from its early role in the development of ethnographic fieldwork to its continuing contribution to major international debates. Today, the department combines a distinguished intellectual heritage with innovative teaching and research, supporting students to understand societies and cultures through critical, comparative, and ethnographic approaches.
