Our innovative and enterprising environment produces students whose hard work, enthusiasm and talent generate successful graduates and industry award winners year after year.
Study takes place within cutting edge facilities, including our £15 million state-of-the-art Media Factory; the new building helps nurture student, graduate and entrepreneurial talent and has strengthened the North West’s reputation as a major centre for job creation within the creative industries. Students are encouraged to undertake work experience and exploit our strong links with leading companies and industry figures to help them pursue their chosen career. Our staff, many of whom have experience in industry, are dedicated and skilled in teaching and learning skills, knowledge transfer with the business sector, and research – much of which is rated internationally excellent (RAE 2008). They relish the opportunity to share their passion and knowledge with new students every year and look forward to meeting you at one of our Open Days where you can discover more about our courses, uni life and visit our facilities.
We design our taught postgraduate courses to extend your knowledge and skills in areas which you may have studied more generally at undergraduate level. Others are conversion courses enabling you to switch your specialism to a new area away from your work experience or first degree. Many courses incorporate a taught element with individual study, plus a dissertation or short research project. You will be required to undertake an in-depth study of a specialised topic and demonstrate the ability to present your knowledge by submitting a dissertation or project report at the conclusion of your course. Many full-time courses last for one year, but some are in modular form and can be taken over a shorter or longer period. We also offer some courses entirely by e-learning or distance learning.
We offer a range of innovative undergraduate, postgraduate and CPD courses, including our graduate entry Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) and BSc (Hons) Clinical Dental Technology, the first undergraduate training programme of its kind in the UK. Our undergraduate programmes include elements of shared training, to prepare students for how their will work in the future as part of the dental team. Taught sessions are held in purpose-built facilities incorporating bright and modern phantom-head training areas as well as dedicated lecture and seminar rooms. We are also one of the few Universities in the UK with our very own on-campus Dental Clinic, and are fully equipped to give all dental students direct access to practical experience in high-end dental work within the institution.
We offer a range of clinical programmes in the field of medicine and vision sciences. Our undergraduate courses include MBBS, Physician Associate Studies, Ophthalmic Dispensing plus an accelerated Medical Sciences degree and a foundation entry programme, designed to prepare students for further study in Medicine or other healthcare subjects. As a Royal College of Surgeons accredited centre, we also provide postgraduate and CPD medical courses for doctors and other health professionals who want to develop skills and knowledge in clinical and non-clinical roles. Our quality-assured programmes offer personal and professional development to support career development and equip health professionals with the skills they need to respond to the new healthcare environment.
We aim to make a difference in the world of science and healthcare. Our well-qualified and accessible staff are committed to supporting students and providing the very best in modern, research-informed science education. As a student, you will also benefit from industry-standard facilities, including leading-edge science laboratories with access to fantastic resources to support your learning. As part of our programme of ongoing investment, we have spent over £500K equipping our state-of-the-art pharmaceutics laboratory facilities, as well of the introduction of our new £14-million purpose-built JB Firth Building. We have also recently completed a £250k refurbishment of the Pharmacy Practice Suite.
