re-marks

User: politics_student - 14 June 2013 16:30

Dear all,

do you think I should be worried about re-marks? I got 3 marks changed after the moderator felt that my original marks were too low. For instance, I went from 75% to 80% for one essay (which the first marker agreed to, after being asked to change). I am just feeling uneasy about not being granted this high mark in the first instance. :(

Am I making a big deal out of nothing?

Hey,

Do you mean the external moderator or second marker? If it's the second marker who has moved your grade 5% either way I don't really think this is a cause for concern, especially in a a discipline like politics and you are still within the same grade boundary (A / Distinction). In our department, for example, the second marker is encouraged to mover the marks about a bit as it signals to the students that the lecturers actually read their work.
