Masters Degrees in Life & Chemical Sciences

Masters Degrees in Life & Chemical Sciences cover various branches of Biology, Chemistry and related subject areas. Life Science programs study the biological makeup and development of different lifeforms, including plants, animals and other organisms. Chemical Science programs study the fundamental laws and processes controlling the behaviour and interaction of matter on earth (including those that underpin aspects of the Life Sciences).

Other subjects in this discipline are 'Applied Sciences' such as Pharmacology and Pharmacy (which focus on the development of safe drugs and medicines) or Food Science (which, as its name suggests, considers the production of different food stuffs and the best way to meet modern nutritional needs).

At postgraduate level, many of these areas overlap. You could study a Masters in Biology that looks at chemical processes within the human body. Or you could study a Masters in Chemistry focussing on nutritional or pharmacological applications.

Courses can be taught MSc degrees, or research-based qualifications such as the MRes or MPhil. Entry requirements will vary, but an undergraduate Science degree will normally be necessary.
