School of Communication Culture & Creative Arts
St Mary's is a University College on the western edge of London. The eighteenth century mansion of Strawberry Hill, now a World Heritage site, forms part of the campus. It is set in 30 acres of gardens and playing fields in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, and only 35 minutes by train from the centre of London.

The Department of Language and Literature has been running a very successful full-time master's programme in Applied Linguistics and ELT for more than twenty-five years. One of the main strengths of the programme is its small size. We do not recruit though overseas agents and accept no more than twenty students in any one year. This means that we are able to offer both high quality teaching and a lot of individual tutorial support throughout the programme.

Seminars take place three mornings a week, with two or three modules taught over each of the three terms. (Tutorials are arranged with individual students at times convenient to them.) All the lecturers are specialists in the fields covered by the programme modules, and all maintain close links with ELT practitioners, contributing to a wide range of classroom research, consultancies, exam boards and inspectorates. The Visiting Professor is Michael Swan, pedagogic grammarian and co-author of the Cambridge English course.

St. Mary's has an excellent library and Learning Resource Centre, with an extensive collection of books and journals in the field of applied linguistics and ELT. We also offer a range of computing facilities and electronic access to source materials held in other library collections

School of Sport, Health and Applied Science
The School of Sport, Health and Applied Science is an internationally-recognised centre with established expertise and resources in running undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the areas of sport, health and exercise sciences.

The following specific programmes are offered: sport science, sport rehabilitation, coaching science, strength & conditioning science, health & exercise science and nutritional science. Furthermore, the school’s Professional Short Courses Unit offers a range of vocational courses for members of the local community wishing to develop careers in the area of sport, health and fitness.

The School is committed to offering students vocationally-relevant programmes of study with the highest academic standards. It has undergone rapid expansion in recent years, with the building of new facilities to support the programmes, and the employment of expert staff in the various fields of sport, health and exercise science.

All of the School’s teaching and learning activity is underpinned by significant research and consultancy (knowledge transfer) work, and staff are actively involved in professional associations.

The School of Theology, Philosophy and History incorporates the Centre for Bioethics and Emerging Technologies under its director Prof. Geoffrey Hunt.

The Centre is a research and teaching centre with a vibrant well established cohort of MA students many of whom have their work published in peer-reviewed journals during their studies. We also have a growing community of doctoral students in bioethics forming part of a wider active expansion of the number of doctoral students across the University as a whole.
