Masters in Austria

Austria is home to a proud tradition of higher education, dating back to the fourteenth century. Today it is a popular destination for international study, with nearly 60,000 foreign students studying at Austrian universities.

As a Masters student in Austria you'll be able to live and study in a country that has contributed to European and world culture in a wide variety of ways, from the classical music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the Psychoanalytic theory of Sigmund Freud to the action movie heroics of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Today Austria offers a modern university system, divided between public research universities and specialised professional and vocational training centres known as Fachhochschulen (or 'Universities of Applied Sciences'). You'll be able to study a Masters degree at either type of institution, whilst living in beautiful historic cities such as Vienna, Salzburg or Graz.

A Masters in Austria usually runs for two years, with the Austrian academic year running from October to September. Austrian Masters programmes are taught in German or English and are available in all major subject areas (though Fachhochschulen will usually focus on applied learning rather than research-lead courses). EU and EEA students may study a Masters in Austria without a visa and will usually be eligible for free tuition if they complete their course on time.
