(Student Profile)

Mark Dudley

How did you make the decision to pursue the Masters in Management?

I was at a stage in my career pathway where I felt I needed a recognised business qualification. I was surrounded at work with US and European degree level educated colleagues. Having left school early with nothing I required more than my work experience to hold my place and or progress.

Why Ashridge?

The choice in business schools / distance learning is vast. I'm quite local, so liked the ability to visit in order to study in peace. Once you've been to Ashridge it's seductive as a place of learning. That makes any virtual interaction easier.

Would you recommend this programme? If so, why?

Without doubt, the relaxed approach helped put me at ease as well as the flexibility of the programme. During my study I needed two or three break periods for various personal reasons. The ability to fit the course around other events was very appealing.

Can you give an example of how you have applied your learning so far?

Our business unit has changed leadership three times in the last six years. The company has also changed via M&A twice in the last eight years. I'm now better placed than ever before to advise or drive the various elements covered in the programme.

What are your career ambitions and how do you see this qualification fitting into your plans?

My career needs to progress to C-level / president / VP positions. I have no doubt that the course has given me the foundations of understanding required. My objective was to gain insights into why organisations do what they do. Equally why they don't do what they should or have neglected to do what used to be successful.

Do you have any words of guidance for prospective students for this progamme?

I was very apprehensive throughout the programme due to my lack of higher education experience. Within distance learning it’s easy to assume that you are isolated and concerns only lumbered by yourself. However, the facility, staff and fellow students provided much solace. If you have just the slightest inkling (just as I did) that you should undertake such a programme, then you probably need to do it. The Ashridge experience is unlikely to let you down.

Entry Requirements

Student must be employed or have access to an organisation in which to undertake the work based assignments. Students must have EITHER, minimum 3 years experience and no degree, OR, an undergraduate degree in any discipline with no experience required.
