Intelligent Games & Game Intelligence (MPhil)

Course Description

As part of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training Intelligent Games and Game Intelligence (IGGI) – a collaboration between Goldsmiths, the University of York, and the University of Essex – we are training the next generation of researchers, designers, developers and entrepreneurs in digital games.

It's a unique opportunity for you to undertake research in collaboration with our 60 industrial games partners and world-leading academics.

The programme combines practical skills training with advanced teaching in cutting-edge research topics and the chance to contribute original research to a growing academic area.

There are 12 weeks of taught modules in the first year, covering:

Game design
Game development
Research skills

You'll also undertake two industrial placements during the programme. This will give you first-hand industrial experience that will influence your research projects.

You could decide to carry out leading-edge research in emerging areas that could include:

Embodied interaction
Intelligent games/Believable characters
AI for game design

The MPhil programme offers the opportunity for the student to continue their research to a PhD.

Banco Santander Scholarships - 7 Awards

In partnership with Banco Santander, Goldsmiths will be awarding seven scholarships to outstanding candidates from within the Santander Universidades network. Each scholarship provides a £5,000 fee waiver and is tenable for one year only.

Scholarships will be open to students applying to study a taught masters degree (excludes MRes and Masters by Research) in any discipline starting in September 2016. The countries targeted (although not exclusively, should exceptional candidates apply from other eligible countries*) will be:Mexico

Students on taught postgraduate programmes (not including MA Filmmaking or PGCEs) starting October 2015. You must be: a UK student; new to postgraduate study; experiencing financial difficulties. You should also demonstrate academic potential and you must not be in receipt of any Goldsmiths, AHRC or ESRC funding.

Entry Requirements

Please see View Website for entry requirements. Each year 10 studentships are available through the IGGI. The studentships cover tuition fees and include an annual stipend of approximately £15,726. IELTS 7.0 (including 7.0 in the written test).
