Entry Requirements

Students enter the MRes after they completed a BA or MA. Should you not hold an MA in Anthropology from a UK university it is likely that you need to register for the MRes before you can move to the MPhil.

There is little difference between the taught Masters and the qualifying year, except that the qualifying year is not a qualification in itself and involves no dissertation. If you achieve the required standard, you can apply to register for the MRes or MPhil/PhD.

We accept a wide range of international qualifications.

Student Profiles

Julia

The most valuable thing I learnt whilst studying MA Visual Anthropology at Goldsmiths University, was how to combine theory with practice. I did my BA at art school, where it was mostly about doing and making. Doing this master study, I experienced how theory could really inform and inspire my practice, but also how my practice could lead me towards certain theoretical tools. Most of my professors were also artists or makers, and they changed my perspectives on the academic world; before I was a bit scared of dense theory and I was worried I would not do it 'right'. But they showed me theory truly is a creative tool. They gave me the freedom to experiment not only in my visual work, but also in my writing.

Sneha

I am currently studying MA in Applied Anthropology and Community Arts at Goldsmiths. As an international student, studying at Goldsmiths is an absolutely amazing and unforgettable memory – both the social and academic experiences I've had.

There are various types of fun activities held throughout the semester and societies (I joined the dance society during the first semester – great fun and I met lots of friends from other departments. We are now working on a dance video!). There are also lots of academic workshops and seminars provided for students.

What I like the most about Goldsmiths is that I can meet people from all over the world. Talking and sharing ideas with people who have different perspectives always opens my mind and reminds me there are different ways to look at the world.
