The computing sector is continuously evolving, so the need to develop and maintain your skills to ensure you remain at the leading-edge is essential. This industry focused programme is specifically designed for graduates from computing disciplines to take the next step and hone their skills to meet contemporary industrial and commercial needs by studying essential core subjects and specialist, modern, in-demand areas.
Mixing a variety of study methods including lectures and tutorials with online modules, you will also be required to undertake personal study. You will also be expected to investigate cutting-edge technologies, implement and test novel solutions, or develop or analyse original areas of associated technology as part of your dissertation.
This course is intended for graduates from computing disciplines who wish to update or focus their computing skills and competencies for effective work within the computing industry.
Key Course Features
-Opportunity to study a variety of skills in depth ranging from commercial programming and mobile application development to computer networking. -Lecture/tutorial and practical sessions are enhanced with additional online modules allowing you to continue independent learning through a variety of approaches. -Taught by staff leading research into the areas of application development and computer networks. -Research activities are associated with the University’s research centre. -Learning progresses from design, development to the building and debugging of applications and networks. -Options to take external Cisco Certification qualifications.
What Will You Study?
All modules are core. As with most masters programmes this has 2 parts, a taught part followed by a dissertation.
Students study 6 core modules of 20 credits each, followed by a 60 credit dissertation, making a total of 180 credits.
For the Networking modules assessment is through a range of individual and group work and coursework techniques including; practical work, on-line tests, reports on lab-based problems, and assignments using case studies

Successful completion of the course enables you to put greater focus on your future career in the field of commercial program development or the educational paths. You will have the knowledge and competence necessary to continue to develop professionally in the workplace. You might take the opportunity to progress to higher-level academic investigation.
It is expected that you will be able to gain employment at higher technical and managerial levels, develop particular specialist technical and consultative skills, and be capable of embarking upon Doctoral level study.

The standard entry requirement for these programmes is an honours degree of at least 2:2 classification in a Computer Science related subject area, or equivalent in any science-based degree with a strong computing and/or engineering element.
