MSc Finance and Investment


Course Description

This part-time MSc course in Finance and Investment is highly relevant to professionals already working in the financial services sector. In particular, it will be highly attractive to those looking to either extend the scope of their current responsibilities or to make a career change into an area such as portfolio management, security analysis, risk management, M & A, or financial consultancy.

Please note this postgraduate programme is designed for candidates working full-time in the UK and we will be unable to sponsor overseas students for a student visa for this course.

The innovative structure allows students to tailor the core courses as well as the electives to their individual interests.

Students are offered the opportunity to take extra electives in the first year and complete the taught part of the degree in a shorter period. Please speak to the Admissions Officer for details.

Course detail

The structure of the part-time Finance & Investment programme is specifically designed to fit around the busy working lives of professionals working in the finance sector. It meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and offers a teaching and learning environment that fully complements the demands of working life*.

The MSc course is a Chartered Financial Analyst Institute (CFA) Partner Programme and is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Securities & Investment (CISI). Please see the Accreditations tab for more information on how you can benefit from these partnerships.

Format

To satisfy the requirements of the degree course students must complete:

• eight core courses (15 credits each)
and
• five electives
or
• one elective (10 credits) and a Business Research Project (40 credits)

Assessment

Assessment of modules on the MSc in Finance & Investment, in most cases, is by means of coursework and unseen examination. Coursework may consist of standard essays, individual and group presentations, group reports, classwork, unseen tests and problem sets. Please note that any group work may include an element of peer assessment.
