[[MA Christian Spirituality]] The MA Christian Spirituality is an opportunity to examine the spiritual traditions of Christianity, in their historical and contemporary forms, and to develop the ability to understand and evaluate the language, ideas and forms of Christian spirituality. The focus is on Christianity in its Western development. This MA is likely to interest those in ministry and teachers of religious education, but also people in business, and those whose professional life or vocational work involves religious questions.
[[PROGRAMME OF STUDY]] The programme consists of four taught modules and a dissertation:
[[Foundations for the Study of Christian Spirituality]] will provide a foundation for the interdisciplinary academic study of spirituality. The theoretical issues surrounding religious experience both as religious and ‘experience’ as such, and spirituality as an academic field which studies these experiences, will be investigated with a critical eye toward effective methodologies. Students will have practical exposure to such methods by applying them to a spiritual classic.
Three option modules. Not all are available every year, but examples are: [[Patterns of Spiritual Growth and Personal Transformation]] [[The Franciscan Spiritual Tradition]] [[Spiritual Direction in the Tradition of Ignatius of Loyola]] [[Spirituality & Society]]
[[TIME OF CLASSES]] Evenings; typically two evenings a week in term-time for a full-time student and one evening for a part-time student.
[[INTERIM AWARDS]] If you do not complete the full MA, you may qualify for an interim award of a Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) or Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip).
