Master of Environment and Society Overview The MEnvSoc is a 180-point postgraduate programme designed for graduates of undergraduate qualifications in social sciences, environmental sciences, law, economics or management. Students build on their qualifying degrees to gain advanced knowledge and critical analysis of the many and diverse perspectives applied to understanding and addressing environmental challenges.
Students complete a selection of core papers (up to 120 points), and engage in independent research to complete a 60-point dissertation or 90-point thesis in the area of environmental and societal inter-relationships.
The structure of the degree also allows students to include relevant papers from other disciplines such as environmental science, law and management, and provides an ideal way to encourage close interconnections between theory and practice across a broad range of issues and topics.
Career Opportunities The MEnvSoc is a cap-stone postgraduate qualification designed for students who completed a first degree in social sciences, environmental science, law, economics or management and now seek further qualifications with an interdisciplinary environmental focus before entering the workforce. Possible career paths include policy work (local, regional and national), as well as working with the Waitangi Tribunal and local iwis.
