[[MASTER OF MEDIA AND CREATIVE TECHNOLOGIES OVERVIEW]]
The MMCT is a postgraduate programme offered over a 12-month study period, designed to extend the creative and technical reach of media designers, performers and creators.
You can study one of four subjects available for the MMCT - each of the four offers you the opportunity to blend artistic and technical forms in new combinations.
Alongside taught papers, you will work on a year-long supervised programme where you will develop a major work or works that serves as the capstone of your graduate portfolio of creative works. This rich package of high-level career development activities provides MMCT graduates with a distinct edge in an increasingly competitive field, both within New Zealand and beyond.
[[DEGREE STRUCTURE]] Following the successful completion of the BMCT you may apply for the Master of Media and Creative Technologies (MMCT). This degree is awarded with classes of honours.
The MMCT involves one calendar year or one and a half academic years of full-time study, or the equivalent in part-time study. Candidates must complete 180 points at 500 level, including a creative research thesis equivalent to 90 points and a theory paper equivalent to 30 points, as prescribed in a subject offered for the MMCT.

Students enrolled in the MMCT may take up to 60 points from other subjects, subject to approval from the School. You should discuss your intended programme with the Graduate Adviser in each of the Faculties or Schools concerned. Individual subjects may have their own guidelines for numbers and types of papers outside the subject.
[[INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE]] All of the departments involved in the programme have developed and are maintaining strategic links with the broader community at a number of levels.
We have close links with Hamilton City Council and with a wide range of communities in the Waikato and across New Zealand. The Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts on campus currently provides one of the key venues for showcasing the cultural capital of the university and facilitating community involvement in university based projects.
The Mediarena facility is already in place for the provision of a cutting-edge digital studio facility for postgraduate students and staff across the creative disciplines and related academic fields.
Contributing staff members have strong links with international networks in media and creative technologies, maintaining strong links with top ranked institutions in Asia, Europe, North America and within the Pacific region.
you must have completed a Bachelor of Media and Creative Technologies (or equivalent), and have achieved a satisfactory grade average – normally a B+ average or better.You also need to have appropriate supervision arranged. Candidates who have completed a BMCT with a major in Design Media with an appropriate grade point average will be eligible for entry to Creative Technologies for the MMCT. Graduates of other undergraduate degrees who have majored in a relevant subject also may be eligible to enrol in the MMCT.
