Medical and Healthcare Education (MSc)

Course Description

Combine your joint passions for health and education with our MSc in Medical and Healthcare Education, which will prepare to become one of the educational leaders of the future in the healthcare sector.

See the website http://www.anglia.ac.uk/study/postgraduate/medical-and-healthcare-education

This inspiring course will give you a good grounding in methods of learning and teaching specifically in the healthcare context.

Teaching includes large group discussions, seminars, group work, work-based discussions and e-learning. By the time you graduate, your independent thinking and practice and your advanced knowledge base will mean you're well placed to act as a role model, educator and mentor in an inter-professional context.

Our course is also designed to make sure you fully recognise the significance of the values and principles of care promoted by the NHS Constitution (Department of Health, 2010).

You’ll be able to engage in reflective activity in the workplace as well as attend formal teaching lectures, seminars and workshops. When you're on campus, you can make full use of our libraries and computer suites; you can also access our Virtual Learning Environment anywhere with internet access.

As our course is open to people from a wide range of healthcare environments, you’re likely to find yourself studying alongside doctors, consultants, nurses, dentists, midwives and allied health professionals, enriching your student experience. Inter-professional learning is key to the development of this course and many of our lecturers are also professionals in the healthcare field.

On this course you’ll develop an educational, training or mentoring role in your sector of healthcare. It’ll help your career path in education alongside clinical practice, enhancing your role in your team and enabling you to make a real difference.

Our MSc meets the professional body requirements for nursing and midwifery: it will allow you to work towards the Nursing and Midwifery College (NMC) practice teacher role and the NMC Stage 4 teacher recordable qualification. It also provides evidence to gain GP Trainer status and as a student, you can apply for a fellowship with Anglia Ruskin and the Higher Education Academy.

Based on our riverside campus in Chelmsford and Young Street campus in Cambridge, we deliver innovative and clinically relevant teaching and research across two departments:

- Department of Allied and Public Health
- Department of Medicine and Healthcare Science.

Thanks to our close relationships with the major clinical-care providers in the east of England, there are significant opportunities for collaboration and student placements across a variety of clinical sites.

We offer exciting opportunities for research and education in the allied health professions. We also translate science and epidemiology into health education and primary care, and deliver taught Master’s programmes to qualified medics. We have a flourishing community of PhD and MD(Res) students across all of our research fields.

Our advanced learning facilities include state-of-the-art clinical skills laboratories and simulation suites, which mirror real-life clinical situations. We also have a fantastic, modern library and a wide range of science labs and ICT suites.
