Right now you are most likely to be in a middle or senior management role. To take your knowledge and career further you want a qualification that’s going to be recognised globally for management excellence. With technology as the backbone of business models, managers need an increasing understanding of contemporary information systems, and of the impact strategic decisions have in this area.

Our MBA will provide you with the skills you need in a range of areas including security and the efficiency and integrity of information systems. You’ll see how these can be applied in different management environments, while also learning how to develop your own IT strategies within your business, and how you’ll put them into practice in future senior management roles.

As technology continues to act as the backbone of business models, it is imperative that management roles understand recent developments in infrastructure design and implementation and appreciate the importance of contemporary information systems awareness and the impact senior decisions have in this area.

Our unique MBA Information Systems Management will give you the advantage over other managers by providing you with principle skills in security, efficiency and integrity of information systems in addition to traditional core management issues of strategic business, navigation and people management.

Currently in a middle/senior management role, you'll want to aspire to a qualification globally recognized as a standard for management excellence. Our course will facilitate your understanding of management's role within an Information Systems Management framework whilst assisting your development of effective IT strategies within those businesses and developing a strategic and leadership perspective. It will also develop a range of business knowledge and skills related to IT within a strategic consideration, including the development of positive and critical attitudes towards leadership, change and enterprise.

You'll be encouraged to transfer your skills and knowledge, to apply theory into practice in a critical and informed manner and to enhance lifelong learning skills in order to achieve self direction, originality and promotional prospects.

On completion, you will be able to demonstrate:

• a systematic understanding of knowledge and critical awareness of current issues relating to the IT industry and its deployment in enterprise.
• intellectual competencies to pursue personal career goals and aspirations and to understand that personal development is a continuous process.
• personal strengths and weaknesses and to define personal performance targets in terms of leadership style and managerial effectiveness.

• goals, parameters and methodologies for research and development activity related to Information Systems Management, implementation, evaluation and deployment.
• skills in critically surveying current and recent practice in the IS Management field, identifying examples of best practice and generalising from them.
• strategies to critically analyse and evaluate the effectiveness of IT infrastructure to fulfil the needs of the enterprise
effective decision making to manage both personnel and resources.
• the ability to innovate and use novel management solutions to successfully complete a project life cycle.

You'll have the benefit of learning from experienced academics from both the Faculty of Science & Technology and the Lord Ashcroft International Business School. You'll also benefit from a number of external speakers. You'll be studying at our Chelmsford campus, a vibrant city surrounded by green open spaces, which is just 30 minutes by train to London.

Our dedicated business technology laboratories incorporate the following specialist facilities:
• computer architecture laboratories consisting of computers located within an isolated network. This allows you full control, with the opportunity to install and configure operating systems and systems software alongside working on the physical configuration of the computers
• specialist software applications laboratories consisting of Apple Mac Pro computers equipped with dual boot into Windows or Mac OS X. This gives you access to a wide range of applications including computer aided design, database design and web software
• specialist networking laboratories, containing computers configured to support our networking curriculum, allowing you to experiment with the configuration of network devices
• in addition to our physical laboratory spaces we also operate a virtualised network lab environment, which enables you to access our networking devices from any location with internet connection at any time of day.
In addition to this, our modern Lord Ashcroft International Business School is a bright and comfortable learning environment.

Entry Requirements

Applicants are required to satisfy the following entry requirementsA UK degree at 2:1 in a relevant IT or Business qualification, or to hold an academic or professional qualification which is equivalent in breadth and depth to a UK honours degree in accordance with the Academic RegulationsTo have had at least two years relevant, post-graduation (or post-qualifying for an applicant holding a professional qualification) work experience on which their MBA learning can build. Requests for admission with AP(E)L are considered via the standard University procedures.
