[[Overview]] The Master of Engineering Studies caters for professional engineers seeking advanced technical training and is a taught master's degree with no thesis requirement. The MEngSt comprises a combination of 400 and 600-level courses that enables candidates to study a broad range of topics in their general area of expertise. The Master of Engineering Studies is offered by the Departments of Chemical and Process Engineering, Civil and Natural Resources Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. It may be awarded endorsed in: *Civil Engineering *Construction Management *Earthquake Engineering *Engineering Mathematics *Fire Engineering *Mechanical Engineering
[[Qualification specific requirements]] Candidates must normally have completed one of the following: *Bachelor of Engineering with Honours with first or second class honours *Postgraduate Certificate in Engineering or Postgraduate Diploma in Engineering, with a GPA or 5 or more *Bachelor of Science with Honours in appropriate subjects.
Relevance and standard of previous study is the main criteria for approval. Students wishing to enrol in postgraduate study must have completed both the academic and non-academic requirements of the prerequisite degree. This includes practical work days, work reports, a workshop training course and a first aid certificate.
[[Qualification structure and duration]] One to two years full-time or two to five years part-time. Study for the degree will normally be full-time, but the Dean of Engineering and Forestry may approve part-time enrolment.
Normally the minimum requirement is a three-year bachelor’s degree from a New Zealand university, or a qualification or combination of qualifications considered to be equivalent.If you gained your qualifications overseas, these will need to be assessed to make sure they are of an equivalent standard.
