Master of Occupational and Environmental Health

Course Description

Study under Australia's leading occupational researchers and make a difference to the lives of individuals and communities affected by environmental and work-related injury and illness with this practical master's degree.

You will gain the skills and knowledge to prevent and manage occupational risks and related health problems. This degree provides you with the skills necessary to evaluate health problems in communities thought to be associated with industrial activities, and control related hazards and risks.

It is particularly suitable for medical practitioners, nurses, allied health personnel, scientists and occupational health and safety managers.

Most of the course is offered by off-campus learning, with compulsory block requirements each semester. The program comprises nine core units and three electives.. The core units cover OHS, epidemiology, biostatistics, chemical and biological hazards, workplace hazard assessment and control, ergonomic and physical hazards, the psychosocial work environment, environmental influences on health, safety management systems, and research methods.

You can exit early with a Graduate Diploma in Occupational and Environmental Health or a Graduate Certificate in Occupational Health if you meet the requirements.

Career opportunities

Graduates may seek employment in occupational medicine, occupational nursing, management positions within industry, government or independent professional practice. This course is recognised by the Australasian Faculty of Occupational Medicine.

Team Monash Elite Student Performer Scheme - No. of awards TBC

The Team Monash Elite Student Performer Scheme is designed to support talented students studying at Monash to represent the University in the areas of Sport, Performing Arts and related disciplines. This program aims to assist students who perform at a state level or higher. Students must represent the University in a Monash Club/Society or at the Inter-University (Varsity) competitions and activities.Benefits:
- $100 to $1000 one-off payment and/or a Monash Sport gym membership.
- Dependant on the sport, the level played and the funding available.Selection
- Must be competing regularly in your discipline, at the highest level in your state, or above.
- Representation of Monash University in your sport (e.g. club, Monash University Club, Monash Australian University Games or Varsity Callenge).
- Your current and past performance in your elected discipline.
- Level at which your sport is played.Retention
- You must maintain satisfactory sporting performance, as determined by TeamMONASH.
- You must regularly represent Monash University in your discipline and participate in the Australian University Games.
- You must not be in receipt of regular payments from other funding bodies for your discipline.

- Australian or New Zealand citizen, holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or permanent humanitarian visa or an international student.
- Commencing or continuing undergraduate or postgraduate student enrolled at a Monash campus in Australia, including Monash College.
- Involved in a non-professional sport, performing arts or similar, as recognised by Team Monash.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have an undergraduate degree in an appropriate discipline and relevant professional experience. The department will individually assess applications from students without a degree who have extensive professional experience. Applicants must also meet the English language requirements (View Website).
