Course Description

Accountants with specialist expertise are in high demand. The Master of Accounting gives you the opportunity to focus on specific fields of accounting practice and develop high-level proficiency in your field.

Our innovative curriculum connects research and practice to provide you with a deep understanding of contemporary applications. The course allows you to align your professional learning to your career goals or interests, with specialist studies in financial accounting, forensic accounting, auditing and management accounting and accounting information systems.

The course also offers you a fast-track route to complete your professional recognition with the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).

Course Structure

The course is structured in two parts. Part A. Mastery knowledge and Part B. Application studies. All students complete Part A. Depending upon prior qualifications, you may receive credit for Part B.

PART A. Mastery knowledge
These studies draw on best and current accounting practice to develop your capacity as a critical professional who is able to apply your knowledge of a specialisation to provide discipline-based solutions in complex commerce environments.

PART B. Application studies
The focus of these studies is professional or scholarly work that can contribute to your professional development. You will develop the knowledge and expertise required to successfully operate as a specialist in the accounting profession.

Team Monash Elite Student Performer Scheme - No. of awards TBC

The Team Monash Elite Student Performer Scheme is designed to support talented students studying at Monash to represent the University in the areas of Sport, Performing Arts and related disciplines. This program aims to assist students who perform at a state level or higher. Students must represent the University in a Monash Club/Society or at the Inter-University (Varsity) competitions and activities.Benefits:
- $100 to $1000 one-off payment and/or a Monash Sport gym membership.
- Dependant on the sport, the level played and the funding available.Selection
- Must be competing regularly in your discipline, at the highest level in your state, or above.
- Representation of Monash University in your sport (e.g. club, Monash University Club, Monash Australian University Games or Varsity Callenge).
- Your current and past performance in your elected discipline.
- Level at which your sport is played.Retention
- You must maintain satisfactory sporting performance, as determined by TeamMONASH.
- You must regularly represent Monash University in your discipline and participate in the Australian University Games.
- You must not be in receipt of regular payments from other funding bodies for your discipline.

Eligibility

- Australian or New Zealand citizen, holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or permanent humanitarian visa or an international student.
- Commencing or continuing undergraduate or postgraduate student enrolled at a Monash campus in Australia, including Monash College.
- Involved in a non-professional sport, performing arts or similar, as recognised by Team Monash.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have completed an Australian bachelor degree or an equivalent qualification with a major in Accounting and a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of 60% or an equivalent GPA as determined by the Faculty. Applicants will be ranked and selected based on their entire academic record. English requirements for international students: Minimum overall test score required is 6.5. The individual band scores required: reading 6.0, listening 6.0, writing 6.0, speaking 6.0, or TOEFL 600 with a TWE of 5, or an internet-based TOEFL score of 100 with 24 plus in writing and no section lower than 20.
