Master of Exercise Physiology


Course Description

Exercise physiologists specialise in designing and delivering exercise, lifestyle and behavioural modification programs for people throughout the community, including those with chronic illnesses and health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and arthritis. This course aims to provide the skills and knowledge to design and implement exercise programs for people with known disease. Theory and practice are integrated through supervised clinical experience and clinically related studies. You will develop strong clinical and professional skills to prescribe and monitor exercise to assess and enhance health and function after injury or chronic disease.tes are eligible for full graduate membership of the national professional association, the Health Information Management Association of Australia.

English Language Requirements

IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.0;

TOEFL Paper-based Test: equivalent;

TOEFL Internet-based Test: equivalent;

La Trobe Melbourne Foundation Studies: equivalent per cent final result in a course;

English as the language of instruction in tertiary studies may be accepted;

Pearson Test of English (Academic) (PTE): minimum score of 64 with no communicative skill score less than 59.

Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE): a grade of B or higher.

Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): A grade of C or higher.

ELICOS: stage 6 with a minimum score of 70%.

Academic entry requirements

Students who have completed an overseas qualification that is equivalent to an Australian Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, or a closely related program, may be eligible to enter the Master of Exercise Physiology however this qualification is unlikely to meet ESSAs requirements for accreditation as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist. Essential prerequisites include a relevant degree with subjects in Anatomy and Physiology, Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics, Exercise Psychology, and Motor Control and Learning.

Professional recognition

La Trobe is currently seeking professional approval with the Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA) under the National University Course Accreditation Program (NUCAP). We will submit the course for consideration of accreditation in January 2015.
